Exotic under water sea creatures, an ocean side cafe, a swinging dance hall and an elevated dockside are all going to be part of the visual allure of Morts Port Cafe by the Sea. A production involving an amaz ing amount of energy from various members of the community, Mort’s Port is an original musical extravaganza. Conceived last August, the play is the result of collective inspiration. Collective because it came from the thoughts of eleven core members of the Wallflower Order and the Eugene Dance Collective, be cause it has held the attention of over 50 skilled participants and because collectiveness is a key concept in the play’s message. A combination of dance and theater, Mort's Port promises to revive and expand traditional forms of music. Jazz, rock blues, swing and musical comedy are combined to delight a broad audi ence. But in particular those who appreciate the thrill of musical comedies oTanother era will enjoy the two and a half hours of varied song and dance numbers. Mort's Port revolves around the conflict between small restaurant owner Morticia and the big imper sonal businesses that want to buy her out. Because the restaurant is not making much money, Morticia begins to succumb to their offers. When the dedicated workers and customers learn of this, however, they band together to urge her to let the cafe be run on a collective basis. Several conflicts come out as the array of characters become more vivid. The cast includes, aside from Morticia and the cafe's workers and customers, a group of little rascals, the bag women, various riff-raff on the dock and colorful creatures from under the sea. The production is partially funded by a grant from the Oregon Arts Commission and the National -^ PSYCHIC Advises on busmess. love & personal direction Jamil PO Box 10154 Eugene.
