Symphony to perform
The University Symphony will perform tonight at Beall Concert Hall
at 8 p.m.
The program will begin with "Leonore Overture" No 2, by Ludwig
von Beethoven. The orchestra will play “Four Norwegian Moods by
Igor Stravinsky.
Following a short intermission, the symphony will perform Cesar
Franck’s “Symphony in D minor.”

Biologist nets
3 year grant
University biologist Roderick
Capaldi has been awarded a
three-year grant of $173,400 from
the U.S. Public Health Service for
an ongoing study of mitochron
drial membranes in heart tissue
which help the body extract
energy from food.
Capaldi, a research associate
in the University Institute of
Molecular Biology, said one goal
of his work is to develop a model
illustrating how molecules which
make up the membranes are ar
ranged.
The Oregon Heart Association,
the National Science Foundation
and the American Heart Associa
tion also provide support for the
project.
Winter courses offered
Northwest Outward Bound is enrolling students in 21-day winter
mountaineering courses to be held from January through mid-April in
the Wallowa Mountains of Northeastern Oregon and the North Cas
cades of Washington and Canada.
The courses provide instruction in cross-country skiing, winter
camping and winter peak climbing skills.
Winter courses are open to women and men, age 16 and older.
Good health is necessary. Scholarship aid is available on the basis of
financial need. Cost of each course is $600.

Gero series still coming
Arthur Flemming, U S. Commissioner on Aging and a former
University president, will speak about gerontology in higher education in
the EMU Nov. 28, not today as previously listed.
Flemming will speak at 10:30 a m. in Room 167 EMU and will be
available for informal conversation from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The event is part of a celebration of the 10th anniversary celebra
tion for the University s Center for Gerontology. It is free and open to the
public.
