Last year’s faculty bowling team plans to add several new members and possibly a whole new team. For the
first time, it is also encouraging women to sign up for the team.

support.
The bill is designed to help “the middle
class person who cannot normally get fi
nancial aid,” says Johnston. She cited fig
ures drawn up by the College Entrance
Exam Board.
“Over the last five years the cost of public
college schooling rose 57 per cent.”
Packwood warns, “education is becom
ing a gourmet item soon to be savored only
by the poor and well to do.”
The House is considering legislation of
similar intent co-sponsored by Les AuCoin,
D-Ore. No action is expected on the Col
lege Tuition Tax Relief Act of 1977 before
the Oct. 27 adjournment, according to Paul
Maudlin, an AuCoin aide. He is hopeful ac
tion will be taken on the measure during the
next session, beginning in January.
The House proposal would provide a
$250 tax credit set up on a similar basis to
the legislation before the Senate. However,
the bill is scheduled to go into effect sooner
than the Senate bill. But, it too would in
crease the credit to $500 by 1980. Total
cost of the House proposal is $175 million.
Recruiting
begins for
bowlers
The faculty-staff bowling league con
tinues this year with a new twist — they will
try to have a mixed league for the first time,
depending on the turnout. There are a few
vacancies on existing teams for the
1977-78 season and also room for a com
pletely new team.
Faculty-staff bowlers can participate in
official tournaments using their EMU lanes
handicap. According to League President
Guy Lutz, the league has provided a unique
opportunity for social interchange between
professors form many different depart
ments, plus some administrators and phys
ical plant personnel.
League activities include a pre
Christmas turkey shoot and an end-of-the
season sweepstakes.
Those interested in participating in the
league should either contact Lutz at exten
sion 4691 or EMU recreation manager Mai
Fiese at extension 4378.
