CEP alternate growing
The Community Education
Program (CEP) enables part-time
non-degree students to enroll in
University courses without going
through formal admission proce
dures. The program has a number
of attractive features.
For one, CEP students, unlike
auditors, receive up to six hours
credit for their work each quarter
Often students with sub-standard
grade point averages will use the
CEP program to raise their aver
age to University standards be
fore enrolling. Should a student
later enroll in a degree program,
CEP work is evaluated as transfer
credit.
Another advantage of CEP is
reduced tuition. For example, last
year three hours of undergraduate
credit cost $88 in the degree prog
ram and $61 in CEP. Three hours
of graduate degree work came to
$145, while in CEP the cost was
$121.
Julie Ousley, Admissions re
ceptionist, says many profession
als not seeking degrees are at
tracted to these lower-priced
courses. An accountant might
want to increase bookkeeping
skills or a nurse might wish to en
roll in a course on death and
dying. Individuals interested in
just taking courses for pleasure
also enroll in CEP.
Easy registration is a further at
traction of the program CEP has
its own registration on Sept. 23
from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in McArthur
Court and Sept. 26-28 from 8 a m
to 7 p.m. on the second floor of
Oregon Hall
To be eligible a student must
never have been enrolled as a
regularly admitted student at the
University, or, if previously enrol
led, have not attended the Univer
sity as a regularly admitted stu
dent since completion of the de
gree or program for which they
were last admitted.
