    Air pollution
experts start
vacuum job
Lane County air pollution experts are
cleaning city streets to learn the source and
type of Eugene street-related pollution.
Six Eugene-Springfield streets were
vacuumed by the Lane Regional Air Pollu
tion Authority (LRAPA) Wednesday and
today to collect dirt and dust samples as
part of a regional air quality study. The
samples will then be analyzed by air pollu
tion experts.
The vacuuming, to be done by a large
industrial-size vacuum sweeper, will take
30 to 45 minutes per street. LRAPA crews
will block off 100-foot sections of the desig
nated streets temporarily during the project.
Springfield streets sampled Wednesday
were Third Street between North A and B
streets at 8:30 a m.. South A Street bet
ween 4th and 5th streets at 9:30 a m. and
Olympic Street between 11th and 12th
streets at 11 a m.
The Eugene streets to be vacuumed
today are Willamette Street between 12th
and 13th Avenues at 6 a m., Garfield Street
north of West Second Avenue at 8:30 a m.
and Cleveland Street south of West 19th
Avenue at 11 a.m.
To validate the test, the LRAPA will re
sample the same streets next week
