to integrate it with realty in the protrayal of a woman dehumanized by
men.
It is by Davy’s design that one comes to resent the relentless
probing questions. Even in the superbly done — and very erotic —
scene of the second masturbation, one feels compassion for her humili
ation. In the last seconds of the film, the camera turns upon its masters,
and the team of technicians is captured on the screen as she sees them:
a humifiating audience of immobile, silent men standing in the sahdows.
One, immobile, silent and sitting in the shadows, does not Ike what one
sees.

Maude Kerns Artists
The Maude Kerns Art
Center’s Artists of the Month for
Sept, are Jane Gold and Fran
Strom. Their work can be seen in
the Rental/Sales Gallery and Gift
Shop, respectively, until Oct. 3.

from a ten year fascination with
birds and insects. Her detailed
embossings are achieved by
building on mat board in subse
quent layers, following by sealing
with a water resistant spray, then
the printing occurs. Her pencil and
pen and ink drawings are erf un
common and unusual birds.
Ms. Gold began prinfrnaking
after attending Nick de Mattie s
workshop in Cheshire for two
years. She continued her educa
ton privately. Hef background in
drawing and painting was
strengthened by studies at the Art
Students League in New York,
Laguna Beach Art Students
School, California College of Arts
and Crafts and privately in Ber
keley.
Her work has been shown
locally at Rainyday Cactus and at
the New Albion Gallery in Oiema,
California and the Graven Image
in Laguna Beach, California
Fran Strom will be showing
several historical alphabets using
quotes of oriental as well as west
ern flavor. Promoting prose and
prophecy through caligraphy by
use of pen and ink on handmade

Miller ski f ilm
revived
The South Eugene High School
(SEHS) ski team will hold its 15th
annual ski film festival Oct. 7 at
7:30 p.m. in the SEHS Auditorium.
Tickets to the festival are $2 in
advance and $2.50 at the door,
with proceeds going to the ski
team. Tickets are available at
local ski shops and from ski team
members.
This year's festival features
“Skiing on my Mind,’’ a feature
length movie by llmmaker Warren
Miller. Pres. Ford appears in the
film, which includes segments on
skiing on grass (the garden var
iety), bind and amputee skiers, a
chimpanzee on skis and hot dog
skiing.

been a primary concern to Ms.
Strom.
Educated at Portland State
University in the art of Calligraphy,
Ms. Strom teaches at Maude
Kerns and Eugene Parks and Re
creation centers. She has shown
at Marylhurst College. Portland
Community College and will be
showing this autumn at the Old
Nut Loft Gallery.
Displayed and given away
with each purchase will be
"weathergrams" which are short
poems written on kraft paper with
india ink and acrylic vermilion
hung by a string in a tree to
weather or to go back to nature.
They originated with Lloyd
Reynolds of Portland, who is
mainly responsible for the revival
of Calligraphy in the Northwest.
