At several agencies
Birth control aid available
Inexpensive birth control ser
vices are available at several dif
ferent agencies in the Eugene
Springfiekd area.
For many University students,
perhaps the most convenient lo
cation to obtain contraceptive ser
vices is the Area “D” of the Univer
sity Health Center, the section of
the center dealing primarily with
gynecology. Information and
counseling concerning various
methods of birth control are pro
vided here; diaphragms, lUD’s,
birth control pills, condoms and
contraceptive foam are available.
Counseling and outside referral
are offered for abortion, steriliza
tion and prenatal care. In addition
to birth control services, vaginitis
and urinary infections are diag
nosed and treated, and pap
smears, pregnancy and VD tests
are performed. A complete list of
charges is available from the
Health Center.
Another inexpensive avenue for
birth control services is Planned
Parenthood, located at 134 E.
13th St. in Eugene. A $14.50 fee is
required for the basic birth control
clinic; this covers the initial clinic
appointment and all recheck visits
for one year. The first clinic in
cludes information and counsel
ing regarding various birth control
methods, a physical and pelvic
examination, a Pap smear and
several other lab tests. Con
traceptive choices are similar to
those available at the University
Health Center. The cost of birth
control supplies are additional to
the $14.50. Planned Parenthood
also provides pregnancy counsel
ing and testing, and operates a
Speaker’s Bureau. Welfare cards
are accepted. For more informa
tion, telephone 344-9411.
Another agency providing low
cost contraceptive services is
Lane County Family Planning
Fees for the initial birth control
clinic appointment and recheck
visits for one year are determined
on a sliding scale basis, with a
minimum $5 charge. Contracep
tive information and services are
available and vaginal infections
treated. University students are
not accepted as Family Planning
patients, however.
