Otter Rock stages Saturday Market
The first of five summer
weekend craft art markets will
be held Memorial Weekend at
the Inn at Otter Crest in Otter
Rock.
In its second year, Saturday
Market, 1976 will offer various
craft-arts — ceramics, jewelry
leathercraft, macrame, wood
work, glass, drawings and
much more — as well as enter
tainment, refreshment and
events.
Last year, held on Saturdays
only, three markets attracted
over fifty craft artists from the
coast and Willamette valley.
More than 6,000 visitors came
to last year's markets.
A summer-long competition,
the Otter Crest Kite Flite! will
begin this Sunday at the Mar
ket. Kite Flite! is a contest of
beauty and performance open
to anyone bringing kite and
string to the market.
At 3 p.m., the highest flying
kiter will win the Kite Hite prize.
The most beautiful kite to fly
will win the Kite Site prize. Both
prizes will be craft-art pieces
offered for sale by market ven
dors.
RCA Moore, promoter of the
Saturday Market, 1976 at Otter
Crest, said that the Memorial
Weekend market promises to
be the biggest so far.
Entertainment during the
Market on Sunday and Mon
day includes the music of
Generation, a new group out of
Agate Beach that offers a soft
rock sound.
Puppets, paintings featured at Center
The artists for the month of
June at Maude Kerns Art
Center are Sylvia Seder and
Joan Gratz. Seder’s water
colors can be seen from June 7
to July 4 in the rental gallery
and Gratz’s puppets are in the
gift shop on the same dates.
Seder began her art studies
at the Chicago Art Institute and
continued her work at the Uni
versity of Illinois, University of
Oregon, Maude Kerns and San
Miguel Allende, Mexico. Next
to painting, Seder is also rec
ognized in the textile arts. Her
creations have been in the
V.
Portland Body Craft Show and
at both Maude Kerns Hand
crafted Apparel Shows. One
man and group shows in paint
ing have been on exhibition at
Maude Kerns, Portland Art
Museum and several Califor
nia galleries. Her show for the
month of June will study land
scapes.
Show marks Centennial year
The Student University Af
fairs Board (SUAB) and the At
rium Building businesses will
feature the Centennial Art Ex
hibition, Saturday in the Atrium
Building. The exhibit, com
memorating the University of
Oregon's 100th anniversary,
will display the artwork of Uni
versity undergraduate art stu
dents.
The show will be open from
10:30 a m. to 7 p.m. There is no
cost for the exhibition. Some
works will be available for
purchase.

Director slates UT
summer schedule
Thomas Grassier, director of
the University's Carnival
Theatre, announces the 1976
summer season.
Already in rehearsal is Alan
Bennett's Habeas Corpus,
under the direction of Lou
Salerni. An English farce, the
play was originally produced at
London's Lyric Theatre in May,
1973. Production dates are
June 25 and 26 and July 1, 2,
and 3.
Jerry Williams is designing
the set for Habeas Corpus
Costumes are being created
by Mimi Banks. Both are staff
designers at UT. Several famil
iar performers are featured in
the cast, headed by Wayne
Ballantyne. Gwen Jackson,
Ballantyne's co-star in the re
cent Entre Act Theatre produc
tion of Noel Coward in Two
Keys, and Jackie McClure
share billing with Ballantyne
The second scheduled show
is Sidney Michael’s Dylan, di
rected by Faber DeChaine, di
rector of last fall's Tiny Alice.
Dylan is a biography of the 20th
century Welsh poet Dylan
Thomas. Of the original
Broadway production, one cn
tic wrote: "It dips deeply and
tenderly into the mind, the spmt
of a man. And it is so absorbing
that it became a personal ex
perience, and not just a skillful
piece for the theatre ... one of
the beautiful plays of our time
The play was successfully
produced by UT in 1967. This
time around, Tom La swell will
be featured in the title role.
Dates for Dylan are July 9, 10,
15, 16 and 17.
The summer musical will be
The Unsinkable Molly Brown
by Meredith Willson and
Richard Moms This musical,
which starred Debbie
Reynolds in the film version,
will be directed by Gressler,
whose credits this year include
Scapino and The World of Carl
Sandburg. Dates for this pro
duction are July 22, 23, 24, 29,
. 30 and 31.
The final production of the
summer will be Dracula, a play
based on the novel by Bram
Stoker. The production will be
directed by Ph D. candidate Jo
Leslie Collier who also adapted
the script along with K.G.
Hawthorne. The set for
Dracula will be designed by
Barbara Dilaconi whose cre
dits include VLT's A Doll's
House. Dates for Dracula are
August 6. 7, 12, 13 and 14.
All four shows will be pro
duced outdoors, under the
Carnival Theatre tent. The tent
is located on the south side of
the Robinson Theatre at UO
Starling times for all produc
tions is 8:30 p m., except
'Dracula which has scheduled
a 9:00 p m. curtain.
In addition to the four major
productions, three children's
shows have been scheduled
for matinee performances
Vicki Tait will direct Beauty and
the Beast presented July 3, 6,
7 and 8. Cinderella under the
direction of Barbara Dilaconi
will run July 17, 20, 21 and 22.
The final children's show,
again directed by Vicki Tait, will
be Alice in Wonderland. Alice
will be performed July 31 and
August 3, 4 and 5.
Saturday performances of
the children's shows will be at
11 a m and 2 p.m. Subsequent
performances will all begin at
11 a m. Admission for all
children's shows is $1.00,
group rates are available upon
request.
Tickets will soon be availa
ble for the major productions at
$3.00 per seat. Tickets for The
Unsmkable Molly Brown will
be $4.00. University students,
senior citizens and children
under 12 will be eligible lor
$1 00 discounts on ail shows
with the exception of children's
