CORVALLIS — Oregon's Rick
Perkins shattered his own school
record in the hammer Thursday
night, uncorking a 213-11 throw in
the Staters Hi-Lite Meet to easily
surpass his previous best mark of
206-3.
While the former South Eugene
athlete came up an inch short, he
has now thrown exactly 22 feet
further than last year.
His Thursday night effort was
one of only a few sparkling per
formances in what turned out to be
a rather blah, late-running meet.
Oregon s Dave Hagmeier, a
former 440 runner who switched
to the intermediate hurdles after
his freshman year, returned to his
old event and won the 440 in
47.62, downing Unfield star Carl
Shaw in the process.
Matt Centrowitz was first across
in the mile in 4:03.56, but was dis
qualified for shoving. Oregon
State's Bill Delatorre was credited
with the win in 4:06.57.
Howard Banich won the shot
put at 58-1V4 and came back to
place second in the discus at
182-3. Ray Burton was third in the
hammer (177-10) and in the dis
cus (181-7).
Oregon's Don Clary took the
5,000-meters in 14:06.8. Chris
Brathwaite captured the
100-meters in 10.69 while Howard
Malcolm claimed the long jump
(21-2V2) and triple jump (46-6%)
crowns and Robert Curry won the
200-meters in 21.69 to place sec
ond.
