ARCHIE SPEAKS:
I AM A CANDIDATE FOR LANE COUNTY
COMMISSIONER POSITION NO. 1 ON THE
DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
ONE IMPORTANT MAHER IS RECYCLING-IMMEDIATE ACTION
MUST BE TAKEN TO SAVE AND CONSERVE OUR NATURAL
RESOURCES!
RECYCLING IS IMPORTANT
IT IS VITAL TO THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY TO RECOVER ALL RECYCLABLE MATERIALS.
LANE COUNTY SHOULD BE PLANNING TO
REUSE RATHER THAN BURY MOST OF THE
GARBAGE IT HANDLES!
POSITIVE ACTION IS NEEDED
IN LANE COUNTY
GOVERNMENT
ARCHIE SAYS:
During my lifetime I have seen many middle of the roaders and have never been impressed.
One “MAN IN THE MIDDLE” was Herbert Hoover, who stayed firmly in the middle until we plunged into the worst
depression in our history.
A second "MAN IN THE MIDDLE,” Sir Neville Chamberlain, got along very well in dealings with Adolf Hitler as they
brought us "Peace In Our Time,” which turned out to be World War II.
A third “MAN IN THE MIDDLE” was Mayor John Lindsay of New York who worked very well with all power factions as he
sped the city on the road to bankruptcy.
I may be outspoken and lack the finished evasiveness of a courtroom lawyer, but I feel that it is more important to make
my position clear on the issues and have the people know that I plan to take the initiative in matters for the people.
In my forty years of experience in fiscal and business management I have never found it difficult to work with sincere,
capable people. I want all people to know that, if I, Archie Weinstein, am elected as your county commissioner, I will assume a
positive leadership role, not that of a "MAN IN THE MIDDLE," trying to manipulate and equivicate and playing politics with
your tax money.
I WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU.

Maxon:
‘Likes to see
things happen’
Andy Maxon decided to run
for the Lane County Commis
sioners because he "got bit by
the bug and likes to see things
happen."
Maxon, 54, is the only Re
publican running for Position
three, Democratic incumbent
Frank Elliot’s seat on the
commission. A Eugene real
tor, Maxon announced his
candidacy last October.
He is not new to the cam
paign for the county commis
sioner. In 1972 he was de
Andy Max on
feated by Elliott in the general
election after a seven-man
race in the primary.
This time Maxon is unop
posed in the primary, but he
says he intends to keep busy
trying to get his "reduce spend
ing" stand across to the voters.
"Unless we find some way
to bring hiring under control."
says Maxon, county govern
ment spending will continue to
increase. He says the county
should discontinue hiring any
new personnel until 1981.
A major change Maxon
would push for is the estab
lishment of an “interim service
fund" which would be used to
pay outside contractors to pro
vide interim and emergency
services as they are needed.
According to Maxon, this
would mean the county could
reduce the personnel and
equipment needed to provide
services that are required only
part of the year.
‘‘We've been killing the
county people with kindness in
providing services,” said
Maxon. He claims his plan will
not delete any services, how
ever, he says, "We should be
prepared to accept fewer ser
vices instead of more."
“Reduced spending is a
trend we have to establish,"
says Maxon, “Yet the service
will be delivered if it is called
for.”
Maxon is opposed to ex
panding the board to five
members because of the
costs. As a realtor he also
favors "no further dilution of
property owners rights."
Maxon also said he is op
posed to Land Conservation
and Development Commis
sion because “it has reached
the point of legislating away
citizen’s rights.
