A local gospel choir, a beauty
clinic featuring African beauty
hints and the staging of ‘The Mili
tant Priest’’ will headup events
today as the Black Arts Festival
moves into its fourth day of ac
tivities.
Today’s festival events will
open with a 12:25 p.m. perfor
mance by the Eugene Community
Gospel Choir in the EMU court
yard. The drama "The Militant
Priest” will be staged at 1:30 in the
EMU Ballroom.
A beauty clinic, featuring Afri
can headwraps, Afro hairdo
grooming and African braiding,
will begin at 2:30 p.m. on the
EMU’s second floor. A talent show
highlighted by gospel, blues, jazz
and black poetry presentations,
will wrap up the day's events at
7:30 tonight.
Festival activities slated for Fri
day include a 12:25 p.m. address
by Huel Perkins, head of the
humanities department at South
ern University in Baton Rouge,
La., the staging of the drama
“Soul Gone Home" at 1:30 p.m.
and a black fashion show at 7 p.m.
All three events will take place in
the EMU Ballroom.
Friday's festival activities will
conclude with a 9 p.m. dance in
the ballroom.

information that the EOC is turn
ing over to them, they will, in fact,
be dealing with the whole situa
tion," she said. “Individual com
plaints will be focused in one di
rection. We hope that the nature of
the investigation will lead them to
look at the total situation.”
The EOC had suggested nam
ing a special Senate committee to
conduct the investigation
Barbara Koser, a former EOC
member, said she hopes the grie
vance committee develops flexi
ble operating procedures. “The
abuses were erf a very large scope
and it would be a mistake to limit
the investigation,” she said. “I
hope they (the grievance commit
tee) adopt procedures where they
can get the sense of what the
complaints were.”
The grievance committee was
established in May, 1972, by the
Faculty Senate, and was de
scribed then by Chapin Clark,
present law school dean, as “a
safety valve for problems that hit a
bottleneck.” The types of grie
vances it initially handled were not
defined and the committee re
served the right to refer cases to
other grievance committees
sponsored by the Senate.
Carmack describes the commit
tee as a negotiating and inves
tigating body which seeks to solve
problems and provide com
promises between the complain
ant and the persons or depart
ments complained about.
Four faculty members and four
students serve on the committee.
Robert Bowlen, dean erf students;
Roy Poole, associate teacher
education professor; Carmack,
Ward and students John Crandall,
John Curtis and Steve Beard
serve currently.
ASUO Pres. Jim Bernau says
he is seeking a fourth student rep
resentative.
A new chairer of the committee
will be chosen at the meeting
today. Carmack has recently
moved to Salem and will no longer
chair the committee.
