Ducks host only home track meet today Oregon facing Pacific, PSU over weekend Oregon's baseball team, fresh off an extra-inning 4-3 win over the University of Portland Pilots Tuesday, will take to the road this weekend for games in Forest Grove and Portland. In a single game scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, the Webfoots will challenge Pacific Saturday, Oregon will have a doubleheader with Portland State at Civic Stadium in Portland, with the first game to begin at 3 p.m. Several Ducks are hitting at a .'tOO dip. Don Heil. a junior trans fer thirdbaseman, was leading the team with a .462 mark before the game Tuesday, while senior catcher Ron Hollins, shortstop Ray Smith, Glen Gaboury and out fielder Rob Closs were also over the .400 mark CORRECTION Oregon s Lacrosse Club s match with the Seattle Lacrosse Club has been changed to 2 p.m. Saturday on the field at 18th and Agate Karate Club to open spring training Oregon s Karate Club will start Kankeiko (spring training) Monday, April 5th through Sunday, April 11th. By JULIE MORTON Of the Emerald The Oregon women’s track team holds its first and only home track meet today at 4 p.m. at Hay ward Field. Other full teams competing be sides Oregon will be Oregon State and Seattle Pacific College. Par tial squads will come from Port land Community College, Lane Community College, Central Oregon Community College, Clackamas County College, the Oregon Track Club and Linfield. “Seattle Pacific will be the toughest competition,’’ says Tom Heinonen, assistant track coach. “This meet will be the time to find out how good we really are and the time to evaluate our com petitors.” According to the Duck coach, Seattle Pacific is sending two po tential Olympians — Sherron Walker and Pam Spencer. Walker has a personal record of 21-2 in the long jump and Spencer holds a 6-1 in the high jump. OSU is sending the other standout — Joni Huntley. Huntley, the American record holder in the high jump, has gone 6-2 %. Heinonen estimates that altogether sixteen women will be competing who are expected to be at this year’s Olympic trials. Mary Officer will be a Duck strength. Officer placed second in Association of Intercollegiate Ath letics for Women (AIAW) pentath lon and sixth in AAU pentathlon last year She holds four school records: 100 meter hurdles (14.2), 400 meter hurdles (1:04.5), long jump (19-1) and high jump (5-7). Karen Marshall, fourth in the 1975 AIAW shot put, tenth in the AAU shot and seventh in the AAU discus, will be another Oregon strong point. Marshall, who holds the University shot put record at 46-2, has been throwing nearly 45-0 indoors and holds a personal best of 146-7 in the discus. Her strongest competition will be SPC's Marcia Mecklenburg, who has a personal best of 49-3 in the shot and 156 in the discus. Distance runners, however, are providing Oregon s depth this year. Heinonen says he has four women who are capable of break ing five minutes in the mile: Cheryl Bates (5:02), Dala Ramsey (5:05), Kim Conner (5:12) and Nancy Al leman (5:18). Some surprises could come from Oregon s Carol Amaral Ac cording to Heinonen, Amaral, a transfer from Yreka, Calif., has reached 5-6 in the high jump, 17-2 in the long jump and 110 in the 100 meter sprint.
