Mock UN confab held
The Northern Regi onal Confer
ence of Model United Nations
(MUN) of the Far West met Friday
and Saturday in Portland. A de
legation of 60 University students
attended.
The University contingent, the
largest at the conference, was the
first Oregon delegation to attend
in four years.
Topics debated included the
status of women in their country’s
economic development, problems
of international trade, and Israeli
practices in the Middle East.
Three University students won
the honor of presenting committee
reports to the General Assembly.
The success of the University
group at the Portland conference
has spurred hopes of the MUN'ers
that emergency funding will be
granted by the Incidental Fee
Committee in order to make at
tendance possible at the Far West
Conference, to be held this spring
in Oakland, Calif.

specializes in African affairs. He will be discussing the political
bases and programs of the three factions which dominate Ango
lan politics.

University rules aired today

A public hearing concerning
new rules for faculty records, spe
cial fees, student conduct, resi
dence hall governance, married
student housing and student re
cords at the University will be held
today at 9 a.m. in the Dad's Room
at the EMU.
The hearing will invite written or
oral comment fcy interested per
sons on the following proposed
rules:
• Faculty records policy.
Adopted as temporary policy on
Aug. 7, the proposed policy deals
with the kind of information to be
maintained ty the University, re
strictions on use and access and
provisions for the duplication and
disposal of personal records in the
University files.
• A list of special fees, fines,
penalties and service charges
levied by the University during
1975-76
• Delegation of authority re
garding student activities, use of
Students’ W-2’s
already mailed
The W-2 statements which are
needed to complete both federal
and Oregon tax returns were
mailed by the controller’s office on
Jan 13. Students who have not
received their W-2 forms should
come to the payroll department,

ASUO Executive to regulate stu
dent activities and the authority of
the EMU director to approve and
schedule fundraising activities

posed rules specify violations of
the student conduct code, de
scribe sanctions that may be im
posed for the commission of of
fenses and set forth procedures
for deciding cases brought under
the conduct code
• Residence hall governance
system. The proposed rules pro
vide a three-unit system of gover
nance, consisting of a Dormitory
Grievance Committe, an Inter
Dormitory Standards Board and a
Unit Advisory Board.
• Married student housing. The
proposed rules provide for a Mar
ried Student Housing Council, de
scribe its procedures and powers,
set forth responsibilities that may
be delegated to tenant organiza
tions and specify management
responsibilities that may not be
delegated
• Student records. Circulated
by memoranda of Sept 1, 1972
and Nov. 15, 1974, the proposed
policy concerns the University's
role in obtaining, recording, main
taining and disseminating infor
mation about students, the nature
of the directory information that
may be released without the con
sent of a student and rules govern
ing a student s access to his or her
own records
The University has proposed
that these rules become effective
April 1. Copies of the proposed
policies are on file w'th the Sec
retary of State and are available
for public inspection on campus at
the library reference desk, ASUO
