Bob Ballester’s Flying Ducks piled up 205.85 points to LSU's 203.30 and Ballester said Oregon's total would rank them sixth in the nation at this point in the season. The Ducks had four competitors tie for first: Curt Rodgers, 9.30 on the pommel horse; Bob Rikli, 9.40 in vaulting: Mark Stone 9.40 on the high-bar and Scott McEldowney, 8.90 on the rings. In the process of beating Louisiana State, Oregon easily bested Wheaton College and Illinois. Before returning home for Wednesday's match with LSU, the Ducks will face Northern Illinois and Indiana State in Chicago tonight. Indiana State had been the only team to beat the Bengals since 1972.
