Current IFC members have not taken the necessary
steps to learn first hand knowledge of ASUO programs.
Consequently, they have made budget cuts that were not
well-informed decisions. I will attend all meetings of the
directors council and speak individually with program
directors to hear suggestions from them. I will allow all
programs plenty of opportunity to appeal decisions.
I have carefully compiled a list of ASUO programs that
do not generate enough student involvement to justify
their existence:
Journalism Student Union ($150), Gerontology Assn.
(110), Graduate Student Council (1,550), Chinese
Student Assn. (1,945), Man & the Oregon Coast (400),
MEChA (5,682), Oregon Prisoners Coalition (1,293),
Health, P.E. and Recreation Student Advisory (130),
University Feminists (2,152), Foreign Student
Organization (4,399), Black Student Union (7,016), Black
Graduate Student Council (1,200), Student Bar Assn.
(5,796),'Asian-American Student Union (1,670), Native
American Student Union and the Gay People's Alliance.
Total savings equal $33,597.37.
These programs are dividing up students, and are a
burden on the shoulders of students who can't par
ticipate in them. On the other hand, programs with high
amount of student involvement and interest such as
recreational and sports activities have my support.

I am a candidate for the Incidental Fee Committee
because I believe the students and program directors
deserve a fair budgeting process. To reach this goal, IFC
members must be willing to do the necessary research to
acquaint themselves with the programs; their goals, use
of budgeted monies, functions, and efforts to increase
student involvement in the program.
If the budgeting process is to be fair to all students,
they must be given adequate notice and opportunity to
voice their opinions on proposed spending of their in
cidental fees. Negotiations between the IFC and groups
receiving ASUO incidental fee support must not be made
in secret and certainly not by just one member of the
Incidental Fee Committee!
The hassle over the selling of combination athletic
tickets and the whole lottery mess could well have been
avoided if only the member!s) responsible had done their
homework and reacted accordingly. (Reports on file with
the current IFC include several proposed methods for the
sale and distribution of athletic tickets recommended by
the Executive Ad Hoc Athletic Committee last spring.
These recommendations were, for the most, ignored.) It
is time to elect a new Incidental Fee Committee. I hope
you will consider me before you vote.

I Roger Leasure, want to help make this University a
better place for all students thus I ask for your support in
my bid for election to the Incidental Fees Committee.
I strongly believe that this should be a committee that
is deeply dedicated to the full range of all students in
terests. Not a self serving committee but a student
serving committee.
My past experience — set up guidelines for, was the
Chairperson of LCC's Judiciary Committee, also acting
Chairperson of the Budget Committee and Acting
Business Manager in LCC's student government. I was
also elected to the position of Senator-at-large.
I was the students government's Second Vice
President at LCC and 1st Vice President at different times
naturally. Director Board of Tellers, Chairman Election
Commission, state rep. from LCC to OSPIRG's State
Baord.
I ran for State Senate Dist. 20, this spring but with
drew to support Bill Garrett, a former University
Graduate.
I have been the Student Body President at LCC, served
of the Academic Counsel, Curriculum Committee and
was Director of Student Activities for Chemeketa
Community College, Linn-Benton and LCC.
Throughout these many extra curricula activities I have
maintained an A-Average, so I believe I have the ability
and ample experience and dedication to make an active
reality out of my vision that you the students have a
responsive and viable Incidental Fee Committee.
I have the time, and the will, I appeal to you the
students to give me the opportunity to use this position
on your behalf.

For myself and most of the freshmen, the college ;s
new, the atmosphere different, and opportunities that ire
immense.
One opportunity open to me is becoming involved in
student government. In order to do so I need your

support. I seek the position of class president because ot
its flexibility and responsibility.
I have been involved in school, local and state
government. I have participated in Boys State and Youth
Legislature. With this experience and more, hopefully I
can meet and be responsive to your needs Some of my
beliefs are as follows:
I believe:
— Active college participation must be present in city
government.
— that alcohol should be legalized in the dorms with
restrictions like those of OSU or SOC.
— that the opportunity to expand ones mind through
an education must not be discriminatory.
— in all new and innovative programs that widen
University opportunities.
Perhaps these beliefs are too idealistic, but the real
solution lies in the approach to these and any other
problems that may arise.
I can offer you a new approach and no promises save
that of working towards solutions with your real interests
uppermost in my mind

As a candidate for freshman class president, I would
like to see more students getting involved in University
and community projects. I would like more freshmen
students to be aware of what we can do for the
University, and what the University can do for us. I
believe we have the potential to fill positions on student
and University boards, and we can accomplish more for
our class. In closing, I would also plan to have more
activities for people in dorms and commuters, such as
dances, parties, and other functions. Begin your in
volvement now, go out and vote!

I am baby duck Jane Johnson and I want to be a
President. I have weak eyes. In the rainy season, I have
webbed feet. I would be rejected from military service. I
have a great yearning to be a big quack. When I complete
my next four years of study I will be well on my way to
being half-quacked.
My primary purpose in attending the U. of 0. is to
achieve a B.S. degree in Biology. From there I hope to be
accepted into the Medical School in Portland.
Why am I, a freshperson, contending for an office such
as that of president of the freshman class? Harry Emerson
Fosdick once remarked, "Democracy is based upon the
conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in
ordinary people." I want to be honest with you. I don't
want to minimize the uncertainties that infest us. I do
want to raise in your minds a single hope that will be
doomed to die unfulfilled. Ideally, unity without losing
personal identity is what the freshman class and every
class should have. Just as our aims may be set for this
unity, good representation must be a leading force. I have
the same anxieties that you have felt and would feel if the
skies were cloudless. What, then, shall I say? I feel a full
sense of responsibility and I beg you to let me achieve my
role in the democracy of this University.
I have just begun to quack!
Jane Johnson
freshman, pre-med
Trabueeo-Frosh Pres.
As freshmen, we live in a world that can be “im
personal" at times. The transitions experienced create
scenes of confusion and challenge, making available time
to involve one's self in extra curricular activities scarce.
Yet one should stop, however, to weigh the merits such
involvement could bring. The sharing of ideas and
concerns makes for practical experience while providing
at the same time a necessary basis for an effective
organization.
It is my hope to organize a program effective in con
sidering any and all ideas (or complaints) that you as
I
freshmen might have. Being open as it would be, this
program could prove factorial in dimming the air of
impersonahsm we face daily Your thoughts could be
channeled more directly to the ASUO office, without
hinderance of excessive amounts of red tape.
Other programs, instigated by the senior class, are in
need of underclassmen support, and they range from
general entertainment to the dance marathon held an
nually to combat heart disease. Granted, the realms of
responsibility have been limited in the past, but a wide
variety of projects could be pursued if the manpower
were available.
I will sacrifice as much of my time as possible to give
the office of freshman class president new dimensions -
to show others we are capable of functioning as a class in
a way virtuous to the needs of our environment.
I will greatly appreciate your support in achieving these
goals.

As a candidate for freshman class president. I take this
opportunity to make known my campaign issues and
platform ideas.
Anyone interested in my background in politics, and
with student organizations can read more on that sub|ect
in my campaign literature.
Most importantly is the fact that the freshman class as
a whole, should be exposed to the candidates and their
ideas. Therefore I ask my honorable opponents to meet
with me in public debate to discuss the issues and seek
questions from the freshman class who would be our
constituents. This could take place in the early evening
hours and at a suitable location so that as many freshmen
as are interested can attend
I seek a better communication and social system for all
freshmen in dorms, frats and sororities. I would take two
actions to accomplish this. One, to have a monthly
meeting for all freshmen presidents and social chairmen
of the above mentioned rooming locations. Two, a
monthly newsletter to bring news and information to all
freshmen concerning social and scholastic events that
interest them.
I would also establish an office hour schedule in order
to meet with any freshman that may have an idea,
suggestion, opinion or problem My room is 205 Boynton
and it is currently open to anyone wanting to rap about
dorm and college life
Read the letters, campaign literature, and information
that each candidate distrubites and then make your
decision about who is best qualified to serve as your
president.
In this day of Watergate and political foulplay, any
campaign promises may sound antiquated. But if elected
as your president, I do promise to serve faithfully and with
the best interests of every freshman in mind.
Rick Heit/

For the ASUO to benefit everyone it ts essential that
every group of students be properly represented As a
candidate for freshman class vice president, I believe the
new blood' has many fresh ideas to contribute to the
ASUO. It is mandatory, therefore, that the freshman elect
officers that will make known their ideas. If elected, the
causes of the freshman class will be voiced by me to the
ASUO.
Freshman have the precious gift of time — let's not
waste it. We have at least four good years ahead to initiate
programs and change policies, as we see fit. Early in
volvement awards the chance to see the fruits of our
labors.
As freshman class vice-president the causes and
direction of the freshman class will be the criteria of my
decisions and actions. Your vote is important to me
However, just as important is the fact that you vote — it
is you right, and your duty — exercise it; it means the
difference.
