Inter-Greek Council renews the annual
'Civil War Sign Contest ’ tradition
In an effort to promote spirit
and have a good time" the Inter
Greek Council has revived the
tradition of making signs for the
annual Civil War football game
through the ‘Civil War Sign
Contest.’
Deadline for posting and en
tering a sign is today
Drawing participants from the
dorms. fraternities and
sororities, signs will be displayed
throughout the week until shortly
after the Oregon State-Oregon
game They will be judged on
originality, humor, astbetic value
and relevance to the theme
Hopefully, according to the
Council, the contest will be ex
panded next year with more
participants and additional signs
The signs will be judged during
the week by a panel of experts,
including faculty members, and
prizes will be awarded for the
best three signs

French Pete rally today in Council chambers
The City Council chambers will be the site of a rally today at 12:30
for a bill to make French Pete a part of the Three Rivers Wilderness
area The bill is sponsored by Senator Packwood.
Speakers at the rally tentatively include Wayne Morse. Pat
Horton, Robert Straub. Bettye Brown, and Nancy Hayward.
Ken Kesey will speak in favor of the Packwood bill before the rally
on the EMU terrace at 11 30 a m
Flu vaccine not yet at Health Center
The flu bug currently circulating in the campus area will g0
unabated for awhile according to the Student Health Center The
Center has not yet received the flu immunization vaccine number two
and they don’t know when they will receive it Notice will be given in
the Emerald when the vaccine arrives
Business departments plan move
The Business Office Payroll and Data Processing Departments
will move from the Emerald Hall location to the new Administrative
Services Building on November 20 and 21 All other Business Office
departments will move on November 29 and 30 Business Office
departments will be closed on the following dates: Payroll and Data
Processing—November 20 and 21; Cashier’s Office—November 29; All
other Business Office departments—November 29 and 30
Since staff will be involved with the move and working conditions
will be in a state of turmoil, your cooperation in transacting business
before or after the move dates will be appreciated
Black Graduate Council to meet
There will be a meeting today for all interested Black Graduates
Don McCarty will be the guest speaker at the meeting McCarty will
be giving a presentation on placement as a public announcement for
all Graduates and undergraduates The meeting will begin at 4:00
p.m and the room will be posted in the lobby of the EMU
Sorority to commemorate founding
Sigma Gamma Rho. Delta Mu Chapter, will commemorate the
51st Anniversary of their sorority's founding at Butler University,
Indianapolis. Indiana on Monday. November 19. 6 p.m.. in the EMU

Druids accepting membership applications
Druids, the University Junior Men s Honorary, is presently ac
cepting applications for eight open positions The purpose of the
organization is to carry mi the benirficial work initiated by the original
.Ancient Order of Druids in London. England in 1781 Membership is
based mi character, scholarship, and service Applications may be
obtained and turned in at the following places: E.M.U. Main Desk, the
E M U. Grievance Center, the office of Student Services, or by con

Recreational vehicle use to be discussed
Proposed rules governing the use of recreational vehicles on state
forest lands will be discussed during a Department of Forestry public
hearing on Nov 20. The bearing will convene in Rm. 20 of the State
Capitol Building in Salem at 10 a.m
The proposed rules call for the designation of open areas for
recreational vehicle use and regulation of competitive events These
rules would pertain to some 780.000 acres <rf state forest land, prin
cipally in Western Oregon, and would set guidelines for the use of
recreational vehicles on these areas.
Copies of the proposed rules are available at the State Forester’s
office. 2600 State St , Salem Persons interested in presenting
testimony on the proposed recreational vehicle rules may present oral
or written statements at the hearing or send such written testimony to
the State Forester
