Family Planning Program expands services
Lane County’s Family Planning Program has increased its
capability to provide services and now can usually schedule patients
within one week, announced Kess Hottle, director of the County’s
Department of Community Health and Social Services.
Patients can be seen at the new location, in the Medical Arts
Building, 401 E. 10th Eugene, or in area offices located in Springfield
and Cottage Grove. Services will be available in Florence in late
October, Hottle said.
The new pill refill hours are 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and
Friday; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. All
patients are urged to come in during these hours, Hottle said.

Prison inmates to display works
A three-day cultural workshop featuring the works of Chicano and
Native American inmates of the Oregon State Penitentiary is
scheduled this month at Lane Community College.
The workshop is slated for Oct. 17, 18, and 19 with an art exhibit
scheduled from Oct. 17-31.
Inmates participating in the workshop are members of the
prison’s Chicano Cultural Club and Lakota Indian Club and are being
allowed to leave the penitentiary on a day-visit basis only. Special
arrangements made between the LCC Chicano Student Union, which is
sponsoring the event, and prison oficials call for the inmates to be
driven to LCC each day in state cars and then returned to Salem each
evening.
Art, poetry and dances will highlight each day’s activities which
begin at 10 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m. All events will take place in the
main gallery of the LCC art department.

Class in candies to be taught at LCC
Hand-made candies, made mostly from European recipes
originated before World War I and brought to the U.S. by Julius
Franzen, will be taught this fall in a Lane Community College adult
education class.
The seven-week course being at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in the home
economics kitchen at the college. Tuition is $10, plus $11.50 for sup
plies.
Students can register at the first class meeting.
City wide student council to be formed
The Eugene Council of Students (EGOS) is in the process of
being formed, according to LCC student body 1st Vice President,
Barry Hood.
The Council will serve as a sounding board for students of Eugene
and will represent their needs as a strong local lobbying force.
Membership is open to three voting members for each of Eugene’s
high schools. In addition, the University of Oregon, Lane Community
College and Northwest Christian College are invited to participate.
“Students need a voice and a way to express their views to the com
munity ; in short, they need a sounding board. I believe that this is just
the break they need,” Hood said.
The first orientation meeting of ECOS will be in two weeks, time
