    ASUO helps
establish
minority
library
The student-at-large will soon have easy access
to publications concerning minority groups and
progressive education agencies, Carl Sell, ASUO
Administrative Assistant, said.
“Formerly these groups had their own libraries
which were relatively inaccessible to the average
student,’’ Sell said. “The libraries tended to be
group-rather than student-oriented.
“This year, the agency library funds are being
matched by the University Library to buy books and
periodicals, to be made available in the Browsing
Room of the EMU” Sell explained. “We hope that
this will not only make the publications more
avilable, but will also increase students’ use of the
Browsing Room.”
Groups to be represented in the composite
ASUO Library are the Asian American Student
Union, Black Student Union, MECha, Gay Peoples’
Alliance, Native American Student Union, Oregon
Prisoners’ Coalition, University Feminists,
SEARCH and ESCAPE.
“Most of the books are donated, which leaves
more money for periodicals,” Sell continued.
“Minorities and other groups grow and change at
such a rapid rate that periodicals are especially
needed to keep up with the changes.
“Periodicals will be kept in the ASUO Library
for a month, then stored in the group offices,” he
said. “The publications should start arriving any
lime, and we expect the library to be substantially
furnished with publications by the end of October.
“Students with even the slightest interest in the
various campus groups should take advantage of
the ASUO Library,” Sell said. “Often, when ser
vices like this aren’t used they are abolished.”
