of many, has put out a directory
of community information
resources entitled “Contact.”
The 135-page directory
representing seven .months’
work, lists 119 sources of
specialized information within
the University and greater
Eugene community. It is also
offered as a guide to community
services according to Penta.

Hulteng writes journalism textbook
“The Opinion Function: Editorial and Interpretive Writing for the
News Media,” a textbook on editorial and interpretive writing for
undergraduate and graduate journalism majors, will be published this
month by Harper & How, Publishers.
The author is John Hulteng, professor of journalism at the
University and a former editorial writer.
The book focuses on generating ideas and developing editorials
that are striking, lucid, and persuasive.
Hulteng is an experienced professional journalist and former
editorial page editor of a major metropolitan daily. He has received a
Pulitzer Traveling Scholarship from Columbia University and a
Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University, as well as a number of
other awards and fellowships for outstanding journalism.
Hulteng has been at Oregon since 1955 and served as Dean of the
Journalism School for six years.
Washington professor presents seminar
Professor Levis Kochin of the University of Washington will
present a seminar on “Evaluating Stabilization Policies” on Monday,
May 21 at 3:00 p.m. in CMM 333. All students and faculty are invited.
OSU dean speaks on ecology today
Emery Castle, dean of the Graduate School at Oregon State
University, will speak on Environmental Quality and Economic
Growth on Tuesday at 125 Law School. His lecture will begin at 4 p.m.
Castle is being sponsored by the University Graduate School and
the Environmental Studies Center as part of their Ecology and the
Economy seminar series.
Teaching fellow receives Ernst award
Susan Hubbuch, teaching fellow at the University, has received
the $500 1973 Rudolf Ernst Graduate Fellowship in English. Hubbuch is
writing her dissertation on English Renaissance drama.
The award, made annually to a doctoral candidate in the depart
ment of English to help finance the completion of the doctoral
dissertation, is given by Alice Ernst. Her late husband Rudolf Ernst
was a member of the English department from 1923 to 1951.
AD incidental budget up for appeals
Over the weekend, the ASUO Incidental Fee Committee wrote a
tentative draft of the 1973-74 ASUO programs and Athletic Department
budget.
Final appeals by those wishing to contest the allocations in the
tentative budget will be heard by the committee Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
in Room 337 EMU. Those wishing to speak at the appeals hearing
should contact the committee at 686-3720 or its chairman, Randy Shilts
at 345-3671.

Sculptor to lecture at LCC Thursday
George Baker will hold a free public sculpture seminar from 8-10
p.m. in'the Board Room (Administration Building) of LCC on
Thursday. His slide show and lecture, titled “Fifteen Years in
Retrospect: Los Angeles, Osaka, Berlin,” will be followed by a small
reception in the main gallery in the art and applied design building. On
display in the gallery will be a collection of Baker’s sculptures and
drawings, which will be available for public viewing Tuesday through
Friday.
Baker will not appear at the outdoor stage on Friday as previously
announced.
Childbirth film to be shown this week
The Story of Eric, an award-winning documentary film on
prepared childbirth, will be shown tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday at
Edison Elementary School, room 10. The film will be shown at 8:30
p.m. tonight and Wednesday and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The 30-minute film will be followed by a question and answer
session. Donations to offset the cost of film rental will be appreciated
but not required. For further information call 345-8023.

Senior citizens invited to free theater
The University Theater is inviting senior citizens to attend per
formances of the play U.S.A. free of charge on Thursday and Satur
day. The play, a dramatic revue with music and dance, is based on the
novel U.S.A. by John Dos Passos and adapted by Paul Schyre.
Senior citizens may reserve their complimentary tickets by
calling 686-4191 or may pick them up at the theater box office in Villard
Hall. Box office hours are noon-5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and noon
9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
