Glass artisan featured this week
The Craftsmen’s Corner, a program sponsored by the EMU, will
feature Craftsman Robert Gold this week. Gold makes leaded mirrors
ar.d stained glass and will set up a small booth in the EMU Fishbowl
and exhibit, sell and demonstrate the making of his craft. Craftsmen’s
Corner operates today through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tax plan questions fielded this morning
University economics professor Kim Patterson and Bob Wynia of
the Oregon Department of Education will speak at a question and
answer session on Gov. McCall’s tax plan this morning at 9:30 a.m. in
room 151 of the Education Building. Patterson will answer questions
on the revenue portions of the bill, and Wynia will explain disburse
ment of funds.
The session is sponsored by the careers’ committee of the
education administration students.
Science Library to conduct survey
A group of students from the School of Librarianship, in
cooperation with the Science Library, will be conducting a user survey
of that library during this week. The purpose is to gather data on the
type of clientele of the library, their needs, and extent of satisfaction
with the materials and services available. The results of the survey
will be presented to the Library Administration.
A short questionnaire will be distributed to all persons entering
the library at selected hours during the week. These questionnaires
can be filled out any time during the users stay, and deposited in a
specially marked box at the exit turnstile.
All students concerned with the Science Library are encouraged to
cooperate in this effort.
Voting Tuesday?' Get tax plan info today
The Bureau of Governmental Research and Service at the
University has prepared a local government finance bulletin con
taining a summary and analysis of Gov. Tom McCall's school tax plan.
The 22-page paper, prepared in cooperation with the Oregon
Finance Officers Association, contains detailed tables on school
financing and property tax rates.
Copies are available at the bureau office, 339 Hendricks Hall.
Dialogue tonight on death experience
A dialogue on the experience of death and dying from
psychological, cultural, and religious perspectives is scheduled for
7:30 p.m. tonight at Wesley Center, 1236 Kincaid.
William Hamilton, Dean of Arts and Letters at Portland State, and
Frances Scott, Donna McKenzie, and Jim Lynch of the Center for
Gerontology at the University will participate.
Hamilton, who will make the opening presentation, is a noted
author, lecturer, and has appeared frequently as writer and host on
CBS’s “Look Up and Live” program.
Tolkien’s Trilogy to be discussed
Walter Scheps, associate professor of English at Ohio State
University, will present a lecture entitled “The Fairy-tale Morality of
Tolkien’s Trilogy” today at 4 p.m. in the EMU.
Scheps, who has published a number of articles with such
publications as “Chaucer Review,” “Shakespeare Quarterly” and
“Notes and Queries,” graduated magna cum laude from City College
of the City University of New York, in 1963. He received his Ph.D. from
the University in 1966.
The meeting room for the lecture, sponsored by the U of 0 English
Department, will be posted in the Erb Memorial Union.
Gonzalez speaks on IFC vacancies
A statement by Gloria Gonzalez, concerning the legality of filling
an Incidental F ees Committee vacancy by appointment rather than by
election, will be heard by the ASUO Constitution Committee on
Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m. in the EMU. The room will be posted.
