OSPIRG to hold elections
The Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG)
will fill two local board positions during this term’s ASUO general
election. Candidates for the positions must file by 5 p.m. Monday in
308 EMU.
A voter’s guide statement of not more than 150 words will be ac
cepted from each candidate.
Kite-flying contest scheduled
For fun or glory, or maybe both, several members of the ar
chitecture department are getting together a kite festival, the Second
Annual Kite Flying Contest. Sponsors hope all avid kiteflyers, string
tiers, fling-tryers and thing-eyers will be out to do it.
On Thursday, April 19, between 1 and 5 p.m., the crowd will be at
the Hayward Practice Field to somehow be a part of this festivity.
Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Highest,
Largest, Smallest, Longest Tailed and First (Accidental) Tree-snag.
Prizes will also be awarded to the following categories although these
kites don’t necessarily have to fly: Most Graceful, Most Unusual, Best
Construction and Other. Preference, however, will be given to flying
models.
Auditions planned for student plays
Today will be the last day for people to audition for 45 roles in 10
different plays directed by students for their class projects.
The auditions are scheduled for 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Picket
Playhouse at Villard Hall.
The student directors will be unable to do their class projects if
enough actors aren’t found. The plays are being performed in the
Playhouse May 1 and 2.
Honorary accepting applications
Skull and Dagger, the sophomore honorary, is currently accepting
applications for membership, according to Jeff Bodner, member of
the honorary.
Bodner said Monday that applications for the honorary can be
obtained by calling himself or Skull and Dagger president Barry
Mena she at 686-5183. He said members of the honorary will begin
reviewing applications next Monday.
Skull and Dagger has sponsored a Salvation Army food drive and
has helped with the Druids junior honorary in working for tearing
down architectural barriers for handicapped students, around
campus, Bodner said.
The honorary will sponsor “any type of service to the University
or to the city” next year, he said.
Bodner commented that the current members hope to “tap” the
new members before Parents’ Weekend this spring. He explained that
the honorary’s by-laws require that there be a “a limited number who
can be in it.’’
Sophomore students who have a 3.0 grade point average are
eligible for membership, Bodner said.

“Law Enforcement in Eugene and Lane County” will be the topic
for American Circus at 7 p.m. tonight on KZEL-FM, 96.1.
The roundtable program, broadcast live from the Bavarian
Restaurant, is hosted by former Emerald
editor Gratten Kerans. His guests tonight will be f^»ne County District
Attorney J. Pat Horton, Lane County Sheriff David Burks and Eugene
Police Chief Dale Allen.
