Slide-lecture on Kabuki Theatre today
George Murphy, an advisor from the University of Washington,
will present a free public slide-lecture on the Japanese Kabuki theatre
today at 8 p.m. in Room 166 Lawrence.
The lecture, sponsored by the University s Japanese department,
will discuss some of Murphy’s personal experiences in the theatre,
current Kabuki artists, and various other aspects of this traditional
Japanese art. .
Murphy was apprenticed to leading Kabuki artist Onoe Kuroemon
in 1964, and since that time has travelled to Japan a number of times.
Through his experiences he has become well versed in the details of
Japanese theatre, and personally acquainted with a number of actors.
The lecture is being sponsored by the Japanese department in
conjunction with a Japanese print display scheduled for April. _
Registrar’s office will be closed Monday
The Office of the Registrar will be closed on Monday, February 5,
1973 as this is a legal Civil Service Holiday.
O’Connell will lecture on art
A free lecture entitled “Patterns and My Journals” is scheduled
for 4:30 pm. today in 177 Lawrence Hall.
The lecturer will be Kenneth O’Connell, visiting assistant
professor of art. _
He received a master of fine arts degree in film from the
University in 1972.
The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the School of Ar
chitecture and Allied Arts.
Parent effectiveness sessions slated
A series of parent effectiveness training sessions to teach parents
how to handle themselves in relation to their children will be held
during the coming weeks under the sponsorship of the University
Campus YMCA.
The weekly sessions are aimed specifically at student parents,
according to Kirk Johnson, director of the Campus YMCA.
An organizational meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Sunday in the
Westmoreland Center, 2055 16th Way. Frank Tilly, who recently
received his Master’s degree in Counseling from the University, will
organize the parents into groups that will meet for one and one-half
hours each week under the direction of members of the University
Department of Counseling. Each group will meet for eight to ten
weeks, with meeting times determined at the organizational meeting.
Former student’s film to be shown
This Sunday’s version of the television show Mancini’s Generation
will include a film segment made by Daniel McCraw, a student at the
University last year.
KPTV Promotion Manager Elizabeth Morris said the film is set to
the song I Love You and Don’t You Forget It.
TTie television show will be at 9:30 on KPTV.

Powell will speak to Rubicon society
Rubicon Society luncheon speaker this week will be Doc Powell,
district representative for the Fourth Congressional District for the
last four years.
Powell’s topic will be “RIP (Rest in Peace) — Progressive
Republicanism.’’
The luncheon meeting is at noon today at the King’s Table, 85 Oak
way Mall, and is open to the public.
Job Corps grads to hear student
Lydia Aguayo, a former Tongue Point Job Corpswoman, now
attending the University, will be the speaker for the Center’s Feb. 5
graduation ceremonies. Some 30 corpswomen will receive their
graduation certificates at 4 p.m. that day in the Robert Bums
Memorial Theatre.
The 19-year-old Aguayo completed ho* work at Tongue Point in
August and enrolled as a full-time student in September under the
SESAMEX program for Chicanos
Correction on concert location
Notary Sojac and Da Hotz, two local rock and roll bands, will play
at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the EMU Ballroom Admission is $1.50.
The Emerald’s Weekend Preview column incorrectly reported
Thursday that the concert would be held at the “Valley Manorial
Center.” The concert is a benefit for Canterbury Center.
