EXPANDING WITH THE TIMES
The existing EMU was built to serve a student community
of approximately 5200 students in 1950. The total enrollment is
well over 15,000 now and in order to better serve the students,
the EMU must expand. Construction on the new addition began
August 28, 1972. The proposed completion date is set around
April, 1974. Although there will be some minor inconveniences
involved, the outcome of the construction will greatly benefit
the student community.
Rather than duplicating existing facilities, the new addition
will provide a number of new services and areas for the
students. The remodeling will undertake to emphasize
flexibility with multi purpose spaces. Areas wrtl be designated
for student offices, store, arts and craft center, married student
center, meeting rooms arrd dining areas. Many of the proposed
lounge areas can be adapted for individual sfudy, informal
raps, and meetings. The absence of structural walls and formal
dividers will promote openness and flexibility in the new ad
dition.
The Erb Memorial Union, whether it be called the S.U.,
Erb, Union, or whatever, exists to serve the student com
munity. The new addition is designed to adapt to the needs and
wants of the increasing student body, and grow with the flow.
If you want it, we've probably got it. It's your union, so
come on in and see.
