Voters have
second go at
school budget
Today is voting day for patrons
of School District 4J in Eugene. A
proposed school budget of $24.02
million is being voted on for the
second time.
The proposed school budget is
8.8 per cent higher than last
year’s and is identical to the one
voters turned down May 1 by a
1757-vote margin.
Of the proposed $24.02 million,
$16,9 million is earmarked to
come from property taxes. This
represents an increase of 80 to 85
cents per $1,000 assessed
valuation.
New funds which would be
brought in by the tax increase
will go to higher wages for
teachers and staff, new em
ployes, increases in fixed
charges, a fund ft the purchase
of new school buses and money to
finance additional field trips for
district students and for dif
ferential st&ff

Ramsey Lewis Trio to be special guests
Ramsey Lewis and the Ramsey Lewis Trio will be special guests
at the benefit concert to be held at the University Monday.
The 8:45 p.m. concert in Mac Court is sponsored by Mana Foun
dation, Inc., a non-profit educational organization founded at the
University by concerned faculty, students, and staff for the purpose of
raising funds for economically disadvantaged students.
Starred in the concert will be The Jerry Butler Revue with Brenda
Lee Eager, Peaches and the Ice-Man Band.
Tickets are on sale at the EMU, Chrystalship, the Sun Shop, and
Viscount Records. Ticket prices for advanced sale are $4 for reserved
seats and $3 for general admission. Prices at the door on the night of
the concert will be $5 for reserved and $4 for general admission.
Offices to close for holiday
All administrative services and department offices on campus
will be closed July 4, according to the office of the Registrar.
July 3, however, is not a holiday and most offices will be open.
For information on specific offices and departments contact the
Registrar’s office, the office of University Relations or the individual
department or office itself.
Student readies for D.C. trip
Marilynn Howard, University junior in geography, has been
selected to receive the University’s first fellowship in the Library of
Congress Summer Fellowship program.
Howard could select a possible 12,000 maps and atlases to
return to the University’s Map Library in exchange for her six weeks
of work in the Library of Congress. These acquisitions would consist
mainly of foreign topography map sets and atlases.
Before she leaves for Washington, D.C. July 10, Howard will
be given a training program in the University’s map library,
cataloging map sets and related work.
Funding for travel and living expenses for a summer fellow must
come from the sponsoring institution. Howard’s travel and ex
penses are funded by the University’s Development Fund.
Organ lecture - recital scheduled
Lee Garrett, Eugene, will present a free organ lecture-recital at 3
p.m. today in the Central Lutheran Church, 18th and Potter Street.
Garrett, a doctoral candidate in music at the University School of
Music, will lecture on Italian organ music of the 16th Century.
For his recital he will perform organ music from the same period,
including compositions by Cavazzoni, Gabrieli, Banchieri and
Frescobaldi.
