Environmental discussion slated
Environmental planning and enforcement of environmental law
will be discussed by Judge William Beckett, candidate for Circuit
Court Judge District two, position six, and A1 King, candidate for the
state legislature. District 41, at noon today in the Dad’s Room of the
EMU.
Beckett will be talking on the legal aspects of environmental law.
King, a University student, will be discussing environmental planning.
Outdoor Club position open
Applications are being accepted this week for the position of
Outdoor Club Assistant Controller in room 23 EMU. The person would
have to help coordinate “Oregon Outdoor ’72.” Applicants should
expect to share instructional sessions in basic wilderness activities,
and share overall responsibility for the Summer Outdoor Program,
with the organizational and administrative aspects.
Qualifications are having an interest in the “Oregon Outdoor ’72”
project, and a willingness to begin work in May. The salary is $900 and
will go from July 1-October 1, 1972. Applicants should be attending
Spring quarter or planning to attend summer school.
The deadline is at noon Friday. Interviews will be Friday at 4 p.m.
in the Outdoor Program office, 23 EMU.
Hearings on ASUO resources planned
The ASUO Governing Committee’s sub-committee on Tentative
Guidelines for Official Participation in ASUO Politics will hold
hearings today and Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., rm. 315 EMU.
Tonight the committee will be discussing the use of ASUO
resources in ASUO elections. Tuesday night official endorsements on
the part of ASUO agencies and officials will be discussed.
Dog bile information requested
A University student was bitten by a dog at noon Thursday at 17th
and Agate.
The student was jogging when the dog bit him. The dog was
described as possibly a black labrador. If the animal is not found, the
student will have to undergo a long and painful series of anti-rabies
shots.
Anyone with information about the dog is asked to contact Rick at
686-5351.
Environmentalist to speak
Gladys O’Donnell, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA)
assistant director for public affairs for Volunteer Programs, will
address interested environmentalists tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Dad’s
Room.
O’Donnell will discuss the role of voluntary organizations in
cleaning up the environment. She will explain the EPA’s new program
and describe what steps individuals can take to clean up the en
vironment. There will be a question and answer period following the
talk which is sponsored by OSPIRG. Admission is free.
Reapportionment hearing tonight
The ASUO Senate is holding a hearing on the six proposed senate
reapportionment plans tonight at 7 p.m. in rm. 112 EMU. Students will
be asked to vote for the plan they prefer in the ASUO general election
Wednesday and Thursday. The hearing is open to all interested
students.
Parks department activities set
Eugene now has the backing of a locally sponsored bicycle racing
•earn through the cooperative efforts of the Coca-Cola Bottling
Company of Eugene and the Emerald Valley Cycling Club. Details of
organizing a racing team have yet to be finalized, but the team wm De
open to all members of the Emerald Valley Cycling Club.
Any women interested in entering a team in the summer slow
pitch softball league, sponsored by Eugene Parks and Recreation
Department, should send a representative to attend an organizational
meeting at 7 p.m May 4 in the McNutt Room of the Eugene City Hall.
Details of scheduling, cost and time for the league which will play
from June through August will be discussed.
All women over 18 are eligible. For information contact Beverly

Echo Hollow' Pool, 1665 Echo Hollow Rd.. will be closed for spring
cleaning all day Thursday and Friday. The pool will open Saturday
and lessons will resume on Monday.
