IUS needs delegate
The Inner-institutional Union of Students (IUS) is
looking for a new delegate to work through spring
term when the position comes up for re-election.
IUS acts as a liason for the ASUO with the other
six state system schools, providing a clearing house
for student information.
A person interested in working as an IUS delegate
must be able to attend one state meeting a month at
one of the state school campuses, and work 6-10
hours a week on IUS projects.
Current projects include a survey of student
opinion on term dorm contracts vs. an annual dorm
contract. IUS is also looking into the legality of the
state board residency requirements vs. the state
residency laws.
Applications are welcome through Feb. 1st, 303,
EMU.
Du Pont awards granted
The University has received word that it is among
only a little over a dozen institutions in the nation
this year to receive grants for science and
engineering and for young faculty awards from the
Du Pont Company.
Du Pont is giving the University $5,000 to help the
Chemistry Department meet needs and undertake
work that would not have been possible with
existing funds, and $20,000 to help gifted young
faculty in chemistry do research in “fields of high
originality.”
This is the fourth year that the University has
been chosen for the Du Pont awards. It is unusual
for an institution to receive these particular grants
that often.
SUAW to meet
There will be a meeting of the Students Union
Against the War at 12:30 p.m. today in the EMU to
plan for John Dellenback’s upcoming visit. There
will also be a slide show on the “automated bat
