African geology subject of talk
A free slide show and talk will be given by Ewart M. Baldwin.
Professor of Geology at the University tonight
The lecture—“Travels in Africa’’-will show people and places as
well as geology of a recent trip Africa is a great center in the study of
the origins of man.
The talk will be held at 8 p.m., in Room 123 Science; the show is
open to the public.
Petition drive to get underway
A petition drive has started that will put on the November 1972
ballot a measure calling for an amendment to the City of Eugene
Charter
If passed, the amendment would require the approval of Eugene
voters before the city could build or enter into any contract cafling for
the construction of a freeway within the city limits.
The Peoples Planning Committee for Balanced Transportation
will present the measure to the city Council, Monday, Jan. 24.
The petition must receive about 4500 signatures from registered
Eugene voters.
Dance to benefit Grower’s Market
Time To Organize benefit dance for the Growers Market, will be
held tonight, from 8 to 12 p.m., at the Growers Market Warehouse, 301
Lincoln.
The dance will feature the McKenzie River Boys and The John
Booth Band, playing Blue Grass, Country, Rock and Roll and Blues
music.
All proceeds will go towards stocking the Growers Market.
Admission will be $1.00 for singles and $1.50 for couples.

Police and Sheriffs to battle
The Eugene Police will “shoot it out” with the Lane County
Sheriff’s Office at 8 p.m. Saturday night in a benefit basketball game
at South Eugene High.
The game will give the “Green Machine” a chance to get back at
the "Boys in Blue” after a 20-6 football loss last fall.
Proceeds will go towards the purchase of a wheelchair for a Lane
County polio victim. Admission is $1 for adults and 50cents for those 16
years and under.
