Records* EMU Mam Desk. St, 1 _§ | On Campus J ‘The Physicists’ to open tonight Intrigue, romantic love and a couple of murders combine to form the plot for “The Physicists,” a comedy which opens tonight at the University’s Arena Theatre. Additional performances are scheduled Friday and Saturday and Nov. 17-20. . Swiss playright Friedrich Duerrenmatt has set the action for his play in a mental institution presided over by a hunch-backed spinster psychiatrist, Doktor von Sahnd. • In a wing of the sanitarium, one man assumes the role of Albert Einstein, one Sir Isaac Newton, and another (Mobius) insists that he received visitations from King Solomon. Two of them are perfectly sane and are spying on the third, who has a formula for destroying the world. Therald Todd is directing “The Physicists” and the setting has been designed by Tom Gill, with emphasis on the tragic comedy’s nightmarish quality. . . Tickets are $1.50 and available at the door. They may be reserved by calling the University Theatre Box Office (686-4191). Curtain time is 8 p.m. University wins grant for psychologists A new training grant from the National Institute of Mental Health has been awarded to the University to provide continuing education for psychologists in the state, particularly those practicing in the mental health field. The Oregon Project for Professional Development, funded this year for $28,000, is one of three similar programs in the nation designed to give additional education and training to mental health professionals. Directors are Dr. Frederick Fosmire and Dr. Peter Lewinsohn, both professors of psychology and the University. Dr. Richard Diller, project coordinator at the University, said that 30 psychologists from throughout Oregon have been appointed to an advisory board representing the state’s mental health facilities, colleges and universities, hospitals, and governmental and educational agencies. This board will attempt to identify the needs and interest of professionals at the “grass roots” level, according to Diller, so that tailor-made information and education services can be provided for them. Goals of the project will be presented before the Oregon Psychological Association meeting in Salem on Dec. 3. Small group meetings are planned at that time to stimulate an in-depth con sideration of career-development interests and resources. Museum director wins Oregon art award A woodblock print “Sag Harbor Dinner” by Richard Paulin has won a purchase award in the 6th annual November Oregon In vitational at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay. This is the first competition in which Paulin has engaged since coming to the University of Oregon in 1967 to serve on the museum staff and faculty of the department of art education.
