According to Larry Salmony, ASUO Vice President, it would be helpful to have some legal background or interest in legal proceedings. Cyclist film to be shown today “Pour un Maillot Jaune” (For a Yellow Jersey) by the producer of “A Man and a Woman” will be shown at 8 p.m. today in 177 Lawrence Hall. Sponsored by the Emerald Valley Cycling Club, the film covers the world’s premiere bicycle competition—the Tour de France—and the most coveted racing award, the yellow jersey. The film without narration presents the idea of the excitement, the emotion and the drama that surrounds the three-week 3,000 mile competition Cyclists race from city to city, from low lands to high passes in the Alps and through five different countries. The program is open free to the public. ODE board position open Applications are now being accepted for a vacant position on the Oregon Daily Emerald board of directors. All positions on the Board were originally filled in June, but one of the Board members has had to resign for personal reasons. The position to be filled would be as a student-at-large member of the Emerald’s board of publishers and would require completing the term of office, which ends June 1. The Emerald Board of Directors is an independent organization which is recognized by the University as the publisher of the Oregon Daily Emerald. The Board has final authority for all business, budgetary, advertising, production and circulation operations, while performing an advisory function in editorial operations. Any student interested in filling the vacant Board position should see Art Bushnell, Emerald Editor, in 301 Allen Hall for further in formation. ASUO applications available Forms will be available for those wishing to file for the fall ASUO elections today in the ASUO office, 308 EMU. Filing deadline is Friday. Positions are open for ASUO Senate, freshman class officers, IUSOSSHE, and OSPIRG. The primary is scheduled for Nov. 11 and 12 with the general election following on Nov. 18 and 19. Friends of Library to host speaker Holway Jones, head social science librarian at the University library, author of “John Muir and the Sierrra Club: Battle for Yosemite,” and Northwest regional director of the Sierra Club, will be the main speaker at the first fall meeting of the FYiends of the Library at 8 p.m. tonight in the Browsing Room (room 201) in the Erb Memorial Union. Jones, who has also written a number of bibliographies on forest products, land survey and city planning, will speak on the history and documentation of the conservation movement in the United States with special emphasis on the National Park movement in Oregon. The purpose of the Friends of the Library organization is to seek ways of raising funds to add to the library items not procurable through regular sources. The talk will be open to all members of the Friends, and to anyone wishing to become a member. Refreshments and a social hour will follow the program.
