Repertory company to stage three plays
A direct outgrowth of last year’s Shakespeare repertory ex
periment, the University Theatre Repertory Company is now being
formed for the purpose of producing three rotating dramatic
productions in the spring.
Membership in the Company is to represent as wide a cross
section of the University community as possible, and is by audition
only. Auditions will be held from 7:30-11 p.m. tonight in the Arena
Theatre of Viliard Hall. Rehearsals will begin in January and weekly
meetings will be held throughout the fall. ’ ’
The plays, to be produced in repertory, are “Ah, Wilderness1 ” by
Eugene O’Neil, “The Taming of the Shrew” (in Commedia adap
tation) by William Shakespeare, and “A Ceremony Called
Revelation,” an original script to be built by the Company through the
repertory experience and to be based on the Book of Revelations
For information, contact Jean Cutler at the speech department
or the UT Box Office.
Environmental class offered this term
“Cleaning our Environment: Problems and Air Quality, Water
Quality, Pesticides and Solid Wastes”—that’s the name of a
University and Division of Continuing Education course set up for this
term, but not listed fbe time schedule.
Jack Carmichael, teacher of the course, says it has “no formal
prerequisites” and “the emphasis of the course is quantitative.” He is
full-time president of a non-profit environmental corporation and will
be “attempting to bring quite a bit of field experience” into the
course.
It will be offered under Geography 507 and CSPA 407 on Thursday
nights at 7 - 9:45 p.m. in 369 Condon. The course has unlimited
enrollment, according to Carmichael, and about five different “ex
perts” in environmental study will speak in the class throughout this
term.
