If you’ve ever been sitting in
class frantically taking notes,
fighting to stay awake, and had it
suddenly occur to you that this
isn’t what education is all about,
then you might sign up for a
course or two in the Lane County
Free School.
You won’t get any credit hours
or degrees, but you might learn
something.
Anyone can join the Free
School (serving Lane County, but
not a County organization) by
paying the $3.50 per term tuition.
Take or teach as many courses as
you like.
According to Bill Wooten, co
founder of the Free School, the
school is an outgrowth of in
formal discussion groups at
tended by people concerned
about what is happening in the
world and who seek an exchange
of ideas, knowledge and
resources. The first courses were
NASA scientist
to speak today
A technical analysis of what
almost became the first U.S.
space disaster, the Apollo 13
accident, will be presented at the
University today by NASA
scientist Hans Mark.
The public is invited to attend,
free of charge, the physics
department colloquium at which
Mark, director of the NASA
Ames Research Center, Mof
fetfield, California, will give his
analysis.
The session is at 3:30 p.m., in
138 Commonwealth Hall.
Pick up your
printouts today
Winter registration printouts
will be distributed to students
today and Friday in the Bottom of
the Bowl of the EMU from 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If there is any error in your
program, report it to the Office of
the Registrar immediately to
avoid any kind of misun
derstanding about your class
registration and grade options.

participated in one capacity or
another.
The Free School is
headquartered in the Odyssey
Coffee House, 713 Willamette,
although most courses are of
fered in people’s homes or
wherever the class wants to get
together.
All courses are offered*
by community people, there
being no “faculty” or “student
differentiation.
Course descriptions
describing what course you plan
to teach, when and where to
meet) should be turned into the
Odyssey by Friday for the Winter
1971 term. After the descriptions
are all in, they will be compiled
into a catalogue, which should be
available the first week in
February. Classes will run from
Feb. 15 through May 15.
