    Packwood to speak
at University today
Senator Robert Packwood (R
Ore.) will speak today at 3 p.m. in
the EMU Ballroom. The title of
his address is “Pertinent Issues
of the 91st Congress.”
The ASUO is sponsoring the
talk, which will be followed by a
question and answer period. The '
event is open to the public with no
admission charge.
Packwood is speaking at
various places in Lane County
today, beginning with an address
at 8:45 at Cottage Grove High
School. At noon he will address a
meeting of the Eugene Board of
Realtors, and will be at the
Forum Room at Lane Com
munity College at 1:45.
After his University address
tonight, Packwood will be guest
of honor at an informal “town
meeting” at the Thunderbird
Motel. Both the LCC talk and the
town meeting are also open to the
public.

Packwood was the youngest
member of the 91st Congress. He
is a member of the Banking
and Currency and Public Works
Committees. He has been an
outspoken proponent of birth con
trol and introduced legislation
which would limit to two the
number of children which could
be declared as income tax ex
emptions, proposed as a law
beginning in 1973.
Before Packwood was elected
Senator in 1968, when he defeated
veteran Sen. Wayne Morse, he
served for three terms in the
Oregon State Legislature.
The Senator’s wife, Georgie, is
accompanying him on his
speaking tour today.

Blues singer to join
Neil Young in concert
Singer and guitarist Neil Young’s concert will have a support act
in John Hammond, a singer of urban and rural blues.
Both singers play guitar and are backed by electric piano, bass,
and drums.
Known for his high-pitched voice, Young has been a member of the
now defunct Buffalo Springfield and a sometime performer with
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSNY). Before, after and inbetween
his group efforts, he recorded three albums on his own, his most recent
effort being “After the Gold Rush.”
He authored the songs “Helpless,” “Country Girl,” and “Down by
the River,” some of which were performed when CSNY came to
Portland early last summer.
Tickets tor the 8 p.m. concert in McArthur Court are on sale at $2
to $4. Sponsors of the event are the Associated Students of the
University of Oregon.
New PS 202 section opened
A new section of PS 202
American Government will be
taught at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays
and Thursdays beginning today
according to the Political Science
Office. All students who were
unable to register for the class
due to lack of space are invited to
sign up in 907 PLC. The class will
meet in 331 CMM and will be
taight by Jerry Medler. Students
may attend class tomorrow
without having first registered
for it.
