Andersons plead innocent to oolice assault charges Two University students en tered pleas of not guilty Friday in Lane County Circuit Court to charges resulting from al leged incidents with state and local police two weeks ago. Howard Anderson, 24, plead ed innocent to grand jury in dictments charging him with threatening to kill state police officer Jack Winchester March 21, and assaulting Eugene po lice detectives Jack Cater and Howard Williams with a carbine March 19. Tommy Anderson, 20, faces two counts of “assault with a dangerous weapon” for alleged ly “threatening and menacing” Cater and Williams with a pis tol March 19. The trial date will be set later. After the pleas were entered. Judge Edward Leavy heard testimony concerning reduction of bail bonds posted by the Andersons. Howard and Tommy Ander son have posted bonds of $15, 000 and $5,000, respectively. Their attorney attempted to prove their willingness to vol untarily appear in court by in terrogating the three officers in volved. Each officer testified the An dersons had not attempted to flee from the jurisdiction of the alleged crimes. Cater and Williams said the brothers ap peared in court voluntarily and did not require an arrest on the “assault with a dangerous weapon” charges. Deputy District Attorney Stephen Kreutzer testified for the prosecution that Howard Anderson had failed to appear after an arrest last year in Lane County. Kreutzer stated Howard An derson is presently facing charges in Saginaw, Michigan, and that he left Michigan with out the court’s permission. Each application for bail re duction was denied.
