Students Sanctioned
In Court Decisions

A University freshman was
found guilty and sanctioned
with an admonition warning in
Student Court Wednesday night.
Three other freshman were
given a 12 hour work sanction
with automatic suspension if
not completed for violation of
non-completion of a previous
work sanction.
In the first case a student was
charged with unauthorized use
of parking sticker on an auto
mobile.
During registration last fall
term the student said he did
not receive a parking sticker.
Instead he used one he picked
up out of a trash can in the
registration area.
This was not the type of stick
er he was to use, being a dorm
resident. Police found that the
sticker on his car was one of
four unaccounted for after reg
istration.
The second case concerned
the breaking of a sanction which
in turn meant breaking disci
plinary probation. The students
didn’t know at the time this

could lead to expulsion from
the University.
The third case was appealed
to student court from minor
court. Originally two students
were sent to minor court for
the same charges, resulting from
disorderly conduct during Dead
Week.
One took his sanction of dis
ciplinary probation until the end
of winter term and four hours
of work at the physical plant.
The other student appealed
and was given the same sanc
tion as the previous student.
The charge of both was disor
derly conduct on the evening
of Dec. 7, while 24 quiet hours
were being enforced in their
dorms.
The defense upheld that the
student was not any more involv
ed than any of the others in
the noise and heated arguments
which caused the counselors to
send him to court. The counsel
ors imposed their own sanctions
on the other members of the
group.
In the prosecution, it was
stated that the counselors had
been trying to talk to the stu
dents, which resulted in a heat
ed argument. The counselors
left the scene to avoid a fight
breaking out.
The argument lasted about
15 minutes, but did disturb
those studying at the far end
of the first floor hall.
Groundskeeper
Attacks Table
The SDS table on the EMU
terrace was reportedly attacked
by a member of the Physical
Plant personnel Wednesday
morning.
According to William Kerlee
who was manning the table, a
Physical Plant groundskeeper
Don Clark, came up to the table
and stated. "I don't like this
table and 1 don’t like the signs.”
He then started to tear down
signs and posters at the table,
said Kerlee.
When asked to apologize and
pay for the damage, Clark re
fused and put a poster into his
gTOundskeeper's bag. ,
Following the incident, Ker
lee protested to Physical Plant
director Irwin Wright who
stated, “I'm afraid if it had been
me, 1 would have done the same
thing.” Wright did say he would
look into the issue, though.
Cater in the day, Bill Watson,
head of SDS, received a letter
of apology about the incident
from JO Lindstrom, Director
of Fiscal Affairs.
The Physical Plant is under
the jurisdiction of I.indstrom
who stated in the apology, "Such
conduct at the University of
Oregon is contrary to Univer
sity policy, and I would like to
express apologies to you."
