Honor Teaching
Two Ersted Award of $1,000
each will be given this year for
distinguished and inspired teach
ing by University faculty mem
bers.
The Ersted Award Committee,
is now seeking nominations from
students, faculty and alumni.
Donald Du,Shane, dean of stu
dents, hus announced that ac
cumulated interest has made pos
siblo the presentation of two
Ersted Awards in 19(57
This was also made possible
in 19(55 and 1908, but in prior
years a single award had been
made each year since the awards
were established in 1957.
Nominating forms arc avail
able from dormitory counselors,
living organizations, or the Office
of Student Affairs. Nominations
should be submitted to Dean Du
Shane, Emerald Hall, or deposit
ed in a special ballot box on the
terrace of the Student Union dur
ing the week of April 24 28.
The Awards arc made available
through a trust fund from the
late A J. Ersted of Atherton,
California, and is administered
by the University Development
Fund.
The recipients of the two $1,000
awards this year will be an
nouneed at the June Commence
merit exercises. The application
deadline is May 1.
'Acid Test' Creator
To Speak on Cartoons
Mr. William Sanderson, politi
cal cartoonist for the Oregonian,
will speak Ht the World Affairs
Briefing Center at 3 pm. to
day.
Sanderson does the "Acid
Test" political cartoon which ap
pears in the Sunday Oregonian.
He will show some of his car
toons and explain, the amount
of work and research that goes
into them and what effect they
have on social and political move
ment of the day.
