Mischief Night?
Art Students
Adorn Fountain

The night before last, which
is known throughout the free
world as "Mischief Night,” sev
eral stealthy ghouls and goblins,
cleverly disguised as art and ar
chitecture students, gave vent to
their artistic inhibitions on the
fountain at Lawrence Hall.
Inspired with the true Hallo
ween spirit, they festooned the
fountain with garlands of plumb
ing supplies, known more specifi
cally as “toilet bowls" or “toilets”
(depending upon how whimsical
you are).
One observer noted that it was
the first “psychedelic happening”
to occur at the University since
the fountain itself appeared on
the scene.
Mysterious Appearance
Legend has it that the foun
tain, which in the past has won
such accolades as “architectural
disaster," and “monstrosity” mys
teriously appeared on the scene
one Halloween morning. The
University, sensing a bargain
(there was no cost involved), de
clared under its power of the
Divine Intervention Act that the
fountain could remain to balance
an otherwise aesthetic landscape.

Two Professors
To Lecture
Two University professors will
give Honors College lectures to
day and Wednesday.
C. Bennett Pascal, head of the
department of classics, Chinese
and Japanese, will lecture on the
subject of ltornan Heligion at 8
p.m. today in the SU. Pascal's
lecture is for Honors College his
tory classes.
Ernest G. Moll, emeritus pro
fessor of English at the Univer
sity, will be an Honors College
guest lecturer Wednesday.
He is the author of 14 books
and is widely recognized for his
poetry. He holds a distinguish
ed place in Australian literature.
Moll retired in July after 38 years
on the English Department fac
ulty.
His lecture will be at 7:30 p in.
Wednesday in room 100 Law
rence.

They were thwarted, though,
as workmen converged on the
scene Monday and quickly re

thereby restoring the fountain to

leaves, puddles of stagnant water,
and assorted fungi.
They neglected, however, to
remove the fountain.
Commenting on the incident,
an official from the School of
Architecture and Allied Arts said,
“We sympathize with the stu
dents. We don’t like the sculp
ture, either, but we haven’t been
able to find anyone to haul it
away.”
Writing Honorary
Announces Policy

Beta Beta, the University chap
ter ol Chi Delta Phi. will meet
once or twice a month. Programs
for these meetings will alternate
between manuscript readings and
speakers of general interest, fields
of endeavor connected with writ
ing and literature.
Beta Beta also holds tentative
plans for staging an open house
workshop for all interested stu
dents with one of the state
schools’ pocts-in residence.

The Lane Memorial Blood Bank needs

Recruiters Will
Visit Campus
Captain William E. Mickey and
First Lt. Ronald Rigby, Air Force
officer selection representatives,
will visit the University Wednes
day to discuss the Air Force Offi
cers Training School (OTS) pro
gram with interested students.
In announcing the visit,
Staff Sergeant Billy Johnson, lo
cal Air Force recruiter, explained
that the OTS program offers the
opportnity for both male and
female college graduates to ob
tain commissions as Air Force sec
ond lieutenants by completing a
three month training course.
While here primarily to discuss
OTS, the visiting officers will also
be prepared to answer questions
concerning the various other com
missioning programs offered by
the Air Force, such as aviation
cadets, nurse corps and medical
specialist corps.
The officers will be available
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednes
day on the SU Terrace for all in
terviews. Appointaments may be
arranged through the Eugene Air

For Degree Set
The list of degree candi
dates for fall graduation is be
ing compiled by the Registrar.
Deadline for filing for a fall
term degree is November 11.
This date will be enforced in
order to complete checking and
printing of the list.
All work must be completed
and transcripts from other i
schools filed not later than De- ,
comber 16. Any student who ap- ,
plied previously and did not re
ceive a degree must reapply.
If the above deadlines are not j

Dolphin Queen Gets
Trophy, Is Crowned
Claudia Dobmay, a 19-year-old
sophomore in pre law, is the new
Dolphin Queen.
She was chosen by the Dolphin
Club and was crowned at their
dance, “Spirit Stomp,” Saturday
night.
She was Miss Coos County
1965. At the University, she has
been a member of Frosh 200, pres
ident of Sweetser Hall, member of
Inter-Dorm Council; she belongs
to Pi Beta Phi.
Miss Dobmay said her thoughts
as she was crowned Saturday night
