Tatum, long a conscientious ob
jector to military service, has
twice been imprisoned for “fail
ure and refusal to register” for
military draft.
Tatum has been active in War
Registers International, serving
as general secretary from 1955
1962. During that time he found
ed the first pacifist organization
in Nigeria. He has participated
in the War Registers League, and
was a member of the American
Friends Service Committee,
through whose efforts he is ap
pearing here.

of Classroom Teachers of the
OEA at the Eugene Hotel, McCall I
blasted the Little Hatch Act ar
ticle of Oregon’s Corrupt Prac
tices Act.
Beginning his speech, McCall:
called the issue “a major matter
of prime concern to your constitu
ency,” then defined the most im
portant issues of this year’s cam
paign as taxation, the Russian
fishing fleet, and pollution of
Northwest waters.
Moving into the topic of edu-1
cation, McCall recited statistics of
national school attendance. He j
said that one third of the Ameri
can people will soon be in school, i
