Talented
Students Wanted
Director Faber DeChaine is
looking for students with some
unusual talents for the Univer
sity Theatre's November produc
tions of "In White America" and
"Spoon River Anthology.”
These documentary plays are
really theatrical events to be as
fully staged and as artistically pre
sented as the theatre's resources
permit.
"In White America" ran nearly
four years in New York. This
"event” is an extremely topical
collection of materials from his
tory which details in part the
history of the Negro in America.
Of the six actors, two men and
one woman must be Negro. I)e
Chaine needs singers as well as a
folk guitarist.
"Spoon River Anthology,” a
collection of Edgar Master's im
mortal folk poems, songs and
scraps of Americana, is in the
same category with “A Night’s
Frost" and "An Evening With
Carl Sandberg." It also requires
singers, actors, and a folk gui
tarist.
No restrictions govern those in
terested in theatre; no prerequi
sites in drama are required and
casting is open to the entire Uni
versity population.

Grades In Court
BOULDER, Colorado (CPS)—
If you don’t like your final grade,
take it to court. In a precedent -
making cane a University of Col
orado coed has done just that.
Miss .lacalyn Dieflondorfer has
charged her English Literature in
structor, Miss Kaye Bache, with
improperly giving her a failing
grade for misconduct—cheating
on a final examination.
The 20-year-old junior seeks an
injunction from Boulder District
Court requiring the university to
change her grade.
Instructor Bache contends that
similarities between .lacalyn’s and
another student's examinations
could not have occurred without
cheating.
Miss Dieflenderfer maintains
that her work in the literature
course deserved a B or better.
A university disciplinary com
mittee which was called to hear
the case found the evidence
against Miss Dieflenderfer insufli- j
cient to determine guilt. When no ,
action was taken as a result of j
the committee decision, the co-ed
decided the state courts were her
only alternative.
Trainee Program
Grant Awarded
A grant of $34,050 from the
Vocational Rehabilitation Admin-j
miration of the U S. Department'
of Health, Education, and Wei- j
fare, has been awarded to the
University for training counselors ]
and teachers in mental retarda
tion.
Trainees will be working toward
masters’ and doctoral degrees
during the 1906-67 year. Each
term there will be nine trainees
enrolled in the program, four do
ing full-time residence work at
Fairview State Hospital in Salem
and five working at Fairview on
a part-time basis.

rector.
Gaylord Rybolt, an assistant

ship awards on student grade
averages, but on need.
For scholarships, freshmen
must complete the year in “good
standing,” the Williams financial
aid office announced. No minimum
grade average is required for
freshmen. A sophomore or junior
must attain a C- average.
Formerly, the higher a stu
dent’s marks, the larger the
