Moorhead Elected to Post
On UNESCO Committee
Jennelle Moorhead, professor
in the State Division of Continuing
Education and professor at the
University, has been elected to
the Executive Committee of t h e
United States National Commis
sion for UNESCO.
Mrs. Moorhead’s work on the
Committee will involve discussion
of the aspects'of UNESCO’s world
program and discussion of three
new programs: education of wom
en, education of the special child,
and a department for youth.
Mrs. Moorhead was elected at
the Commission’s national con
vention in New Orleans, Louisi
ana, Sept. 18-20. She attended the
convention as an appointed mem
ber of the Commission and as
National Parent-Teachers Associ
ation president.
Mrs. Moorhead will serve' a
one year term on the 22-member
Executive Committee. She will
leave Wednesday to attend a State
Department meeting in Washing
ton, D.C., on Thursday with the
United States delegation to the
UNESCO General Assembly.
The Executive Committee rep
resents the National Commission,
an advisory body established by
Congress to help the United
States government carry out its
responsibilities in UNESCO — the
United Nations Educational, Sci
entific and Cultural Organization.
One of the tasks of the Com
mission is to analyze and make
recommendations on UNESCO’s
proposed biennial program and
budget.
Mrs. Moorhead previously
served three 3 - year terms
on the 100-member Commission,
appointed by three different secre
taries of state.
After attending the UNESCO
meeting in Washington, D.C.. Mrs.
Moorhead will attend the execu
tive committee meeting of t h e
International Union of Family
Organizations in Paris, October
13. She is vice-president of the
Union.
She will also speak to the
Irish Teachers' Association in
Dublin before returning to Oregon
to keynote the Women’s Day pro
gram at Treasure Valley College
in Ontario October 25.
