Goldschmidt
To Debate YD's
On Outside Issue
ASUO President Steve Gold
schmidt and John McKenzie, sec
retary of the University Young
Democrats, will discuss whether
the ASUO Senate should involve
itself in off-campus issues at the
Y-Dialogue today. The discussion,
“Should the Senate Take a Stand
on Viet Nam?" will be at 4 p.m.
today in the Bottom-of-the-Bowl
Goldschmidt ran on a platform
last spring encouraging student
action and discussion on politi
cal and social issues and supports
the Senate action toward adopt
ing a position. McKenzie argues
that the Senate is an imperfect in
strument for expressing student
opinion. The discussion is ex
pected to center on whether or
not students have become more
activist and concerned about
world problems and whether the
Senate is an effective means for
them to express their involve
ment.

they suggested he would have "a
substantial possibility of win
ning.”
But he said he had already
spent $11,000 in speaking tours
around the state in his prelim
inary efforts and he estimated a
full primary campaign at $60,000
to $70,000.
“It would be a most expensive
contest,” he said. “The money for
such a campaign is not in sight."
He said it looked to him as though
he could count on only $15,
000 in pledges in addition to $7,
000 he already has.
McCall, widely known in the
state, would have the favorite’s
role and Montgomery acknowl
