Casanova thought the Ducks
were on their way after they
scored easily the first two times
they had the ball. But then a cou
ple of mistakes plus an injury to
Bob Berry kept the Webfoots
from scoring the rest of the
game.

Casanova said Berry’s injury
forced the Ducks to limit their
offense. Oregon’s star quarterback
wasn’t supposed to run or block
if possible, said Casanova. “That
kind of limits your offense,’’ he
added.
Casanova said that Idaho coach
Dee Andros changed his defenses
accordingly. In the second half
the Vandals severely limited Ore
gon’s offense and caught fire
themselves. "I kept seeing a 15
14 score.” said Cas.
Offense Went Well
“In the first quarter our of
fense operated as well as it has all
season,” said Casanova Oregon’s
defense held the Vandals to just
44 yards in the first half. “I don't
know what happened the second
half,” he said.
“We weren’t going at them as
quick and as hard,” he com
mented. “I really didn’t know
what to say to them at halftime,
we were playing so well. Idaho
showed us nothing different than
we had anticipated on hoth of
fense and defense.”
Casanova described Idaho as a
good ball club, "a solid ball club.”
They were bent on rushing Berry
as hard as they could, he said.
Casanova was very pleased with
Berry’s efforts against the Van
dals. "He completed 11 of his first
12 passes,” said Cas.
On offense Casanova handed
out praise to fullback Dick Winn
and guard Dale Wilson.
Defensive Backs Excel
Oregon's three defensive half
backs, Ron Martin. Les Palm and
Tim Temple, also were praised.
Linebackers Harry Cartales and
Tim Casey, end Oliver McKinney
and tackle Jim Kollmann were
also complimented by Casanova
On Berry’s injury, Casanova
said he still isn’t sure about Ber
ry’s condition. "He was running
Sunday and it didn’t bother him
as much as 1 expected it to," said
Casanova.
Jerry Parsons has n had sprain
and probably won't play this
weekend.
Of Ray McDonald, Idaho’s su
per-sophomore, Casanova said.
"He’s a fine looking animal He
is a tremendous threat and has
the speed to break away. He just
bowls people over. He’s going to
get in some people’s hair.”
Haskins Praised
Casanova commented on the
Vandals' success with the option
run. He complimented end Rob
Haskins for doing his job going
after the pitchout man. "Our in
side men weren’t getting to their
quarterback (Mike Monahan),”

On the attempted onside kick
off that Oregon got, Casanova said
that the Vandals didn’t give Ore
gon receivers a chance to catch
the ball, which is illegal.

Dave Wilcox, former Oregon
star, again stood out on defense
for the San Francisco 49’ers Sat
urday.
Although the SF club dropped
a 24-14 decision to the Green Bay
Packers, Wilcox was a standout
on defense from his left corner
backer post.
Wilcox recovered a Packer fum
ble and returned it six yards to
his own 31 only to have his mates
lose the ball as quarterback John
Brodie was attempting to pass,
setting up the last Green Bay
touchdown.
In the third quarter Wilcox
stalled a Packer drive as he
tackled halfback Tom Moore in
the open field and made them
settle for a three pointer by Paul
Hornung.
Mel Renfro, one of Oregon’s
all-time greats, played his usually
fine defensive game for the Dal-;
las Cowboys as they tied the New
York Giants 13-13
His most notable contributions
included:
• Three punt returns for a
total of 19 yards.
• Intercepted a Giant pass.
• Standout defensively in the
Cowboy secondary.

Another former Oregon star.
Dick James, now playing with the
New York Giants as an offensive
halfback, caught a pass for 12
yards and ran for an additional
total of 21 yards on the ground
as the Giants tied the Dallas Cow
boys 13-13 in their Sunday en
counter.
The Dallas Cowboys lost the
services of Mike Gaechtcr, a for
mer UO footballer and thinclad,
as he sustained a broken elbow

Women's Bowling Starts Thursday
