found in possession of alcohol.
The source also said the chaper
ones for the dance, a married cou
ple, reported the incident, sup
posedly involved several viola
tions under the code.
Several rumors have been cir
culating on the campus regarding
the case, one of the first major
violations of the code to be con
sidered by the conduct commit- j
tee. If any definite violations are!
found, there is a possibility Presi-!
dent Flemming may withdraw the :
fraternity charter.
The conduct committee, under j
the new code which met with
final approval at a regular fac- j
ulty meeting Nov. 6, has the prin
ciple responsibility for applica
tion of the code. Nickerson is the j
committee secretary.
The spokesman repeated a
statement made earlier thus year
by President Flemming in which
he said “There is one objective
which must be placed at the top
of the priority list of all frater-:
nities, namely, to make the maxi
mum possible contribution to the
advance of the educational objec
tives of the institution of which
they are a part.
“Activities which help to
achieve this objective should be
encouraged and aided by the Uni
versity. Activities which stand
in the way of these objectives
must be terminated by the fra
ternity. It is only under such cir
cumstances that a University is
justified in retaining fraternities
in the University community.”
Nickerson reported that he
strongly concurred with the Pres
ident’s statement.
Members of the conduct com
mittee are Donald A. Watson, Ex
ine Bailey, F. R. Lacy, Louis Bre
ger, P. W. Gygax, Herbert Bisno,
Dale Heide, Pam Pashkowski and
Bonnie Arai.
