Placard-Carriers Are UO Students
Four placard-carrying men who
were passing out handbills in Eu
gene Saturday were identified as
University students.
The men were distributing
handbills near the Eugene City
Hall urging Oregonians to let
their Congressmen know how
they feel about "the federal gov
ernment's action or lack of it, in
the Birmingham demonstrations.”
The handbills stated further
that the authors "hope to show
him (President Kennedy) that the
people of Eugene at least are
aware of and concerned with the
racial situation in Mississippi.”
The men were identified by
another University student who
said she thought they represented
only themselves and not any one
group
The handout states the ques
tion: "Suppose not Negroes, but,
men of property were being beat
en in Mississippi?”
Oregano Distribution
The winter and housing edi
tions of the Oregana will be dis
tributed Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday from 2 to 5 p m

Profit Estimated
On Junior Week
A rough nnancitil estimate for
Junior Week has been released
to the Emerald by Tom Tongue,
Finance Chairman for the event.
An estimated net profit of $3,
475 was made. However, all fig
ures are subject to change be
cause of late expenses and es
pecially because all expense fig
ures from the Physical Plant
have been only estimates.
Prom expenses were about $3,
2(i0, and ticket sales amounted to
about the same figure, so that the
junior cIhss more or less broke
even on that event. This is the
first time in several year that the
class has broken even on the
Prom.
The Mothers’ Luncheon also
broke even, selling approximate
ly 3000 tickets.
No figures were available for
the Mothers’ Breakfast,
There was a paid attendance of
4800 at the All-Campus Sing, the
expenses for which were $410
Total publicity for Junior Week
amounted to $315 Court expens
es were $395 Other expenses
came to about $55
Total expenses, excluding the
Prom, came to $1,325.
Before Junior Week, the junior
class was about $400 in the hole.
With Junior Week profits, they
will have approximately $3,000
for next year, subject to change.
Tongue said that he thought this
was a pretty fair amount.
