    Pigskin Pick Season Starts
With Guest Guesser
The 1962 Emerald Pi ({skin
lick campaign in underway. After
a nine month lay off four veter
ans have returned to the Pigskin
ranks with one new member and
a new innovation.
THE NEW innovation, created
to provide interest to those not
awed bv the learned opinions of
the EPP regulars, is the addition
of a guest picker each week.
These guest pickers, selected be
cause of their prominence in cam
pus affairs, will try their luck at
defeating the veterans week by
week and on an over all percen
tage basis
The guest picker this week is
I'O Athletic Director Leo Har
ris Mr. Harris, although declin
ing to estimate point differences,
seemed very positive about his
prognostications and has un
doubtedly started the guest pick
ers on their way to a good season
THE FOUR veterans returning
are Bob Pond, Chris Church, Joe
Berger and (shudder) Ron Buel.
I'and, last year’s runner-up to
champion Pete Downs, the latter
who lias left the UO campus by
way of graduation, is very confi
dent he will triumph this sea
son Bob finished only one game
behind Downs last year.
One game back of Pond in last
year’s campaign was Chris
Church, the current Emerald
sports editor Closely behind
Church was one of last year’s
sports editors. Joe Berger. Ber
ger, too, seems confident and
definitely has his hopes set on a
smashing victory and the coveted
Oswald Jacque trophy
THE OTHER returnee is Ron
Buel. Buel, a two-year EPP, holds
the distinction of being ~ ^"V
man in history to finish a v ear'
last in two seasons. In fact, Kon’.; ’
accumulative average for av
two years is below.500 per cent.
Mathematically anyone, even a
monkey, should be able to at least
pick one-half of the games cor
rectly Being constantly reminded
of this fact by the other veterans,
Buel has promised to devote much
effort to having at least a .500
year.
THE NEW regular on this
year’s team is Lee Turnbull. A
former business manager of t h e
Emerald, Lee has been walking
around for days with a warm glow
of confidence dominant in his
character. Humor has it that Turn
bull did not work this last sum
mer but instead traveled all over
the nation scouting in hopes of
victory in his rookie year. Unfor
tunately, for Turnbull at least,
his rookie year is also his last
as he is a senior.
The season will last for 10
weeks with the prognostications
published each Thursday or Fri
day, depending on page space.

It’s the ricli-flavor leaf that does it! Among L&M's choice tobaccos there’s more
of this longer-aged, extra-cured leaf than even in some unfiltered cigarettes. And
with L&M's modern fdter — the Miracle Tip — only pure white touches your lips.
Get lots more from L&M — the filter cigarette for people who really like to smoke.
