Theses Now Microfilmed
Candidates for masters degrees
at the University now have an ex
tra challenge. Since early this
year, masters theses judged su
perior by a faculty examining
committee have been microfilmed
and added to the “Masters Ab
stracts” collection.
ORDINARILY, masters theses
are bound and placed on library
shelves. They may be borrowed
through the inter-library loan sys
tem.
For several years, dissertations
by candidates for doctoral degrees
at the University have been mic
rofilmed by University Micro
films,, a Michigan company.
ON NOV. 9, 1960, the graduate
council of the university ap
proved the policy of microfilming
the masters theses. The first one
was put on film in January of this
year.
The faculty committee respon
sible for reading the thesis and
certifying the candidate’s comple
tion of graduate work recom
mends approval of inclusion of
the thesis in “Master’s Abstracts."
Then the candidate makes ar
rangements with the Audio-Visu
al Department of the library to
have his paper microfilmed. He
must pay a $15 fee.
Some of the theses which have
been selected for microfilming
are: “The Compulsory Arbitration
of Labor Disputes in Norway";
"Some Aspects of De-Tribaliza
tion in Kurdistan; The Role of
the Sheikhs”; and "The C.eology ;
of the North Central Part of the j
Sawtooth Creek Quandrangle,;
Oregon.” About 20 theses' have
been microfilmed since the pro
gram began.
