Friday Night A near capacity crowd of over 10.000 filed into McArthur Court Friday night to watch the OSU cagers down the Ducks in the basketball version of the Ore gon vs. Oregon State “Civil War." AFTKR two and a half min utes of the contest had slipped by, the Ducks were leading 5-2. Three minutes later the Orange | men led 12-5. With seven minutes j left in the first half Oregon ! State led by 15. 32-17. From here on the OSU lead deviated only slightly until the final buzzer. It was Jay Carty who led the point parade with 25 important counters while the two lightning fast OSU guards. Steve Pauly and Terry Baker, each hit for 15. Mel Counts was held to a mere 11 points, far below his 19.5 average, but nevertheless hauled in 18 rebounds. Counts and Carty pulled off 44 rebounds between them, only six less than the Ducks got as a team. For the Ducks it was the sophomore substitute from Med ford, Jerry Anderson, who dumped in 14 points to lead his teammates in scoring. Bill Sim mons and Charlie Warren both hit for 11. AT THE intermisison rest, the staters led 49-28. The Webfoots had been able to grab off one out of every three rebounds. The home forces had shot an exasper ating .250 (8-32 > from the floor while the Beavers had been hit ting at a solid .450 (19-44) clip. When the second half began, it wasn't much different front the previous one, although the Beavers slacked off a little in their hitting from the field. Beaver mentor Slats Gill started emptying his bench until, with a little over 10 minutes left, the Ducks had come within 13 points, 63-50. Immediately Counts and Carty again entered the con test and put the Beavers ahead by twenty within three minutes. Again the OSU subs entered the game, this time to stay.
