Lights dim, clocks stop
when library fuse blows
The University Library's elec
trical system operated at half
power most of Saturday before
electricians urui physical plant
personnel discovered the trouble
- a blown fuse.
THIS Ft.'NK, however, wasn’t
one of the little kind that sits In
a box on the wall, but controlled
one of three parts of n system
which normally supplies 2,300
volts to the library.
The fuse, located In the elcc
tricul tunnel near Johnson Hall,
carried enough carbon when It
blew to indicate that there was
adequate power to light the li
brary. However, most of the
lights remained out, or operated
a far less than normal capacity,

Once seen, It was easily fixed,
commented Wilbur Weed, physi
cal plant superintendent.
Hunday afternoon, most of the
clocks on the campus were st.111
running about five hours behind
time or seven hours ahead of
time dependong on how one looks
at It.
They were stopped when an
alert employee in the library
stopped all the electric motors to
keep them from burning out.
One on these motors was the one
that controls the master clock
which in turn controls many
other clocks on campus.

causing some amount of conster
nation among people in the win
dowless parts of the building.
“It was quite annoying,” one
library staff member commented.
Launching postponed
CAPE CANAVERAL (UPI)
It probably will be early next
year before the U.S. can hope to
put one of itc astronauts into
orbit.
Any hopes of a 1961 launching
faded Sunday when scientists
postponed for at least two weeks
Tuesday’s scheduled orbiting and
recovery of a chimpanzee. Trou
ble in the chimp's space capsule
forced the decision. Sources
close to the Mercury program say
it will be at least February be
fore a manned flight can be ex
pected.

fellowship from the National In
stltute of Mental Health.
The fellowship is for $2,000 f.
year, plus tuition, travel ant
equipment allowance, and It h
for the study of factors that con
tribute to Inter-animal recogni
tion.
Miss Flesher's project is ar
offshoot of a study of soda
dominance and aggression in ani
mals that she was pursuing ai
the University of Florida, when
she received her BA and M.A
degrees and completed one yeai
of predoctoral work.
In the project Miss Fleshei
plans to set up at the Univer
sity, she will seek to answei
the question of how less aggres
sive animals learn to recogniz<
a more dominant animal and re
treat before they are hurt.
Miss Flesher is studying undei

professor of psychology, and Rob
