In Swedish Open
Special programs for English
speaking students for the 1901-62
fuademte year will In; offered at
the University of Stockholm, Swe
den. No previous knowledge of
the Swedish language is required
for enrollment in the program.
Operating on the graduate
m bool and junior year level, the
programs allow the student to ac
quire knowledge of Swedish
through intensive research work
study. This would enable them
to attend university lectures In
Swedish.
The International Graduate
S' hool diploma course leads to
a master's degree and is open to
students who have received a
bachelor’s degree at an American
college or university.
The one - year program offers
seminars In economics, govern
ment, administration, social wel
fare, and international relations.
Stockholm University's junior
year consists of a Scandinavian
language program, an Introduc
tory course, six lecture courses,
and three seminar courses.
All instruction is given in Eng
lish by Swedish university in
structors. Textbooks also are in
English.
I-ecture courses Include inter
national relations, government,
economic geography, social struc
ture and problems, literature, and
history of art. Tuition is set at
S.VXi.
A number of scholarships are
offered for both the graduate and
Junior studies. Further informa

time score stood at 40-31.
AFTER THE HALF the Ducks
came out like they were going to
take over, as they often do, but
the Cougars were not to let it
liappen.
Not until 5:03 left in the game
did the Webfoots begin to rally.
Moore, Warren, and Strickland
took the intiative and scored once
each, bringing the score to a
slimmer, but not too uncomfort
able, 72-67 lead for the Pullman
team.
The Cougars seemed determin
ed to win this one and would not
let up, scoring as often as they
had the chance and forcing the
Ducks to press and take desper
ate last chance shots.
THE HOPEFUL. Webfoots
gave the WSU team a scare when
lanky Glenn Moore drove for a
lay-in with 0:55 remaining and
came within two points, 75-73.
But, scare was all it was, be
cause soon afterwards Ball step
ped up to the line and canned two
gifters for the final 77-73 count.
Three Oregon men hit the
double column scoring figures,
Strickland with 13, Moore with
22, and Warren with 25.
The Ducks actually out-shot
the Cougars from the field, hit
ting 26 goals to the Cougars' 25,

House Approves OSC Nome Change
Legislation to change the
name of Oregon .State College
to Oregon State University was
passed. 4.'J-9. Friday by the Ore
gon House of Representatives and
sent to the Senate.

but there was considerable good
natured ribbing during the dis
cussion.
ICepresentatlve Carl Fisher
from Kugenc made a surprise
move by asking unanimous con
sent to change the name to Ore
gon Agricultural College. His
move was blocked, however.
Representative Richard Ey
mann remarked, “If the pres
ent trend of changing colleges
to universities continues, is
there a probability that the Col
lege of Cardinals might be
changed to the University of
Cardinals.

Spaceship Launched
MOSCOW (UPI i — A Russian
spaceship carrying a Soviet flag
in its nose was launched on a
three-nronth trip to the planet
Venus Sunday. The Soviet Union
first put a new Sputnik into or
bit around the earth, then trig
gered the separation of the piggy
back spaceship for its long-range
probe. The Soviet news agency
Tass said a special space center is
tracking the rocket and recording
data transmitted by its radios.

treated by the criminal courts as
any other person would be, Hawk
says, the University does not
attempt to duplicate the punish
ment.
In the case of minors caught
for being in possession, however,
they are generally put on proba
tion from the University. If it is
a second offense, or a major one,
the student's car may he sent
home. Sometime ; the student is
suspended.
SUSPENSIONS are generally
not total, Hawk says. The stu
dents may be suspended for a
quarter or until they prove their
maturity, say in the service or at
a junior college.
"Very rarely do we suspend
a student with the idea that he
can't come back,” Hawk says.
One final note. Also over the
weekend a car pulled onto the
lawn in front of Allen Hall, got
stuck, and left ruts nearly a foot
deep. First reports indicated it
was a University student. It was
not. According to observers those
in the car were area high school
students.
