the wings of a 12-0 pasting of the
Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday in
Pittsburgh.
THE YANKEES wasted little
time in getting things under con
trol.
They piled up a 6-0 lead by the
third inning and coasted on from
there, adding two runs each in
the sixth, seventh, and eighth in
ning.
The win knotted the series a 3
3, and the Yanks made it look
easy.
In all, they collected 17 hits to
the Pirate’s seven, as veteran
.Whitey Ford coasted to his sev
enth World Series victory in
«unny 85 degree weather.
There were plenty of slugging
heroes in the Yankee lineup, as
every New York regular got at
least one hit.
PROBABLY the biggest Yan
kee sticker was little Bobby Rich
ardson. The New York second
sacker continued his hitting ram
page with two for five and three
runs batted in.
Richardson’s three RBI's look
ed all the more remarkable a
gainst his regular season total
of 26. His three yesterday gave
him 12 RBIs for the series, a new
record.
Richardson had plenty of
company in the hitting depart
ment.
Yogi Berra, whose series RBI
record Richardson broke, collect
ed three for four at the plate him
self and had two runs batted in.
Bill Skowron picked up two for
four at the plate and Micky Man
tle had two RBIs. So did pitcher
Whitey Ford.
The Yanks now rate as 6-5
Series favorites off their strong
Wednesday performance.

Don Kasso out;
Terry Baker to
start for OSC
The Oregon State Beavers try
to make their record four wins
and one loss this coming Satur
day with a sophomore starting at
the key tailback spot.
Heralded Terry Baker, a high
school All-American at Jefferson
high of Portland will replace bril
liant junior, Don Kasso, in the
all important tailback slot.
Kasso has gained 338 yards
from running and passing so far
this year. Duck fans undoubted
ly remember him well for his out
standing play in the homecom
ing game at Hayward field last
year.
BAKER. HOWEVER, is an
able replacement. He is a rarity
in college football, a true triple
threat. Like Kasso, he has gain
ed over five yards every time he
has carried the ball. He has com
pleted 18 out of 30 aerials for
236 yards and a pair of touch
downs. He is averaging 43 yards
on his punts.
In fact, if Baker continued at
his present rate, he would be
within 14 yards of the all-time
OSC total offense record, now
held by Joe Francis, garnered in
his senior season.
IT LOOKS AS IF the Ducks
will have their hands full come
November 19 when they journey
to Corvallis for the annual civil
war clash. If Kasso is also ready I
at that time. It could be a real
battle.

the leaderships in rushing, pass
ing and total offense according
to NCAA statistics released yes
terday.
THE NEW total offensive lead
er after four week ends of com
petition is Howie Dyer, a senior
at Virginia Military Institute,
who moved ahead of Iowa State
sophomore Dave Hoppmann. the
leader during the first weeks of
competition.
Hoppmann was Injured last
week end and dropped his leader
ship lrt both total offense and in
rushing. Hoppmann is now ninth
in total offense.
Bobby Gaiters of New Mexico
State took over the leadership
in rushing offense from the Iowa
State sophomore. Gaiters has
racked up a total of 552 yards
in 72 rushing attempts.
OREGON’S Dave Grayson Is
tenth in rushing.
Washington State's Keith Lin
coln. who will face the Ducks this
