The president of one of the mid
west dinosaur-stage schools is
said to have remarked that he’d
have a winning team if he had to
hire a bunch of gorillas. I think
he had lost right there; educa
tion had lost. If activities are only
for winning a trophy or some
symbol of “I’m it’’ then they are
of doubtful value, possibly even
harmful. Regretfully I have to ad
mit that Oregon is on the edge
of getting bigger and bigger.
Maybe it will outgrow some ac
tivities; but I hope it doesn’t get
too big to do some of the small
things that make it the pleasant
est. friendly, companionable place
it has been.

CAMPUS NOTES
• Alpha Phi Omega will meet tonight
at 6:30 in the Student Union.
• Amphibians will meet Thursday noon
in the social room of Gerlinger for election
of officers.
• The annual Oregon Daily Emerald
banquet—for all past and present staff mem
bers of the paper—will be held Monday at
6 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. The
dinner is free.
• Sigma Delta Chi will meet today at
noon in the Student Union. Guest speaker
will be Glen Stadler of station KEED.
• Petitions for yell king and yell dukes
ill be duwe Monday at 5 p.m. in the ASUO
petition box. The petitioners are needed
to fill vacancies from last year’s squad.
A 2.0 GPA is required to petition.
• There will be a terrace dance outside
the Student Union Friday night from 7-11
p.m. In case of rain, it will be held in the
SU. Campus clothes is the dress. Records
will provide the music.
• Pled Hisaw Jr., of the Department of
Zoology, Oregon State College, will give a
biology department seminar. Friday at 4,
Science 16, on “Esrogen of Elasmobranch.”
The talk is open to the public.
